Kazakhstan jolted by 5th earthquake in last twenty-four hours
Two more earthquakes measuring 3.4 and 4.8 points on the Richter scale were registered in southeast Kazakhstan on Sunday, bringing the total number of tremors to five in the last twenty-four hours, the European Mediterranean Seismological Center reported.
The latest earthquake was registered at 3:13 p.m. local time, with its epicenter located 85 km (53 miles) to the east of Almaty, the country's former capital, the European seismologists said.
The first earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5 points struck southeast Kazakhstan at 08:31 a.m. local time on Sunday, with its epicenter located 76 km (47 miles) to the northeast of Almaty at a depth of 20 km. The second tremor with a magnitude of 4.0 points occurred at 09:05 a.m. local time 75 km from Almaty.
The third earthquake had a magnitude of 3.2 points on the Richter scale and struck at 10:07 a.m. local time also 75 km from Almaty. The next tremor was registered at 13:41 local time 68 km (42 miles) to the northeast of Almay.
No casualties or destruction have been reported so far.
