You need not to be hopeless as Pakistani election system is Parliamentary & it is difficult for a nascent party to get full majority as Pakistan has influential local system of feudal Lords and vadheras.

India is too big a partner for Russia to ignore . Even if Putin wants he wont be able to do it b'cause of age old traditional frriendship b/w military as well as civilian establishment of both countries.

Maj Gen. Akbar Khan did not kill Liaqat Ali Khan, and did not die immediately after either - he was responsible for a failed coup against Liaqat Ali Khan. He went on to become Chief of National Security under ZAB in the late 70s some 20 years after Liaqat Ali was assassinated.

The senior most PA officer was a Maj Gen Akbar Khan from ASC who retired just after the Partition. We all know about the famous Gen Akbar Khan of RWP Conspiracy. The assassin Akbar was a civilan no body, who was shot dead on the spot by a Police officer who went up the ladder in his Service. I forget this officer's name but people have always suspected him to have been involved in the conspiracy to kill Liaqat.

thats a bit silly to say the least. from the article it is clear that Russia does not want Americans to have long term bases in Afghanistan.

I said the same thing .Read again my first sentence .Nobody wants permanent US presence . But most countries including russia want US to stay till the time ANA is not strong enough to handle Afghans security on their own.

It's common sense . When Afghanistan was under Taliban , it had become a safe haven for Chechen terrorists . Russia doesn't want that at any cost again right under its nose . Bad for its national security . They wouldn't mind America staying for a few more years till the ANA is strong enough and that is why they provide Americans with the supply routes .

Pakistanis it seems are banking on joining the SCO , then hoping that China would not allow India hence denying Russia their wish and then also hope for SCO to become a military alliance . All of which except for perhaps the first one is wishful thinking as of now.

My advice to some Pakistanis here , Dont bank on anybody to fight your wars. when shi* hits the fan with USA or India , you will be all on your own like everyone else .
