What's new

Kaveri engine to be installed in 2018

1998: Kaveri to be operational in 2001
2001: Kaveri to be flying by 2006
2006: kaveri to run by 2010
2010:Kaveri to be installed by 2018
2018: Kaveri to be built by 2030
2030: Kaveri to be renamed by 2050

Meanwhile, there will be a new Sukhoi T-200 PAKORA flying with an electromagnetic drive .. and kaveri will still be somewhere..
DRDO.. incorrigible.

bro pakistan is still not able to make a 100cc motorbike engine and you are commenting on fighter jet engine common man.. atleast we are trying to do something by our own with our own money and resources.

Ambitious but rubbish.

Nice brother

Well, We Have a Prior Knowledge in Making A 10Kn Engine in the late 50's when the GTRE was established.... And Making Kaveri was a Challenge with a Very Little experience which we had.... Well Every Aspiration is Ambitious , Whats Life without Ambition??? If Ambitions are rubbish then I Feel sorry for Your Life...

u r 100 % right...

we cannot even make a 70cc bike engine let alone 100cc or higher... i dont know how we made missiles ?

to be fair india is way ahead in terms of technology..someone rightly said that better late then never

So what a big deal here

Just take example by Chinese WS 10

Development of the WS-10 started in 1987
And in 2009 they say that

may be you do not have the answer about how u make the missiles but rest of the world have answer about your answer and answer is china, north korea and US crash landed cruise missiles and thanks for your understanding about the delays

Sir, thrust is not the only parameter suggesting the operational and working capability of the engine.

Other factors are also important for the engine to fully meet if it wants to be operational.

If Kaveri has so much thrust and its other parameters are not satisfactory, then thrust has no use, even if its 130kN.

thats why its taking time to develop, to sutain at such high thrust and pressure and other climatic plus different factor conditions. we have developed engines for Marut but this one is different, its has more applications, like a multipurpose engine.

it's indeed took china longer than expected to develop ws-10A, though ws-10A now finally appears running stablely on J11B.
quite many chinese ppl already got frustrated with ws-10A's slow progress. however, if china took the same approach like what drdo did by announcing 'deadline' agian and again to the public, more chinese ppl will overwhelmingly curse the drdo counterpart in china to hell. :what:

why not put the kaveri + eco core in mirage 2000 and extend the life and performance of mirage 2000 ?

On the other hand, my friend, India is a democracy and our government and government organisations are answerable to us, the taxpayers and hence the need for deadlines.

It is do able but where is the engine? the GTRE Snecma - K10 with the Snecma (M88-2 - Rafale) core is expected to produce ~100kN wet thrust for the LCA mk3(?) and the AMCA and upgrade the 40 mk1 (GE404) + 100 mk2 (GE414) to that standard. The existing K9 model with the Kabini turbojet core will run as a separate program to power AURA, marine and other applications. The Mirage 2000s Snecma M53 engines already produce ~ 96kN - wet thrust. The current K9 engine produces only ~70-75kN wet thrust. Obviously it does not make sense to put a lower powered engine inside the Mirage 2000. By the time the K10 is available (2015-2018) time frame it will still not be a replacement for the Mirages as going to all the trouble for a meager 4kN increase in thrust. But I may be wrong here. A point in this regard though is the choice of the GE F414 vs EJ200 for LCA mk2. Obviously the ADA designers did not think it was worth the effort re-designing the airframe, significantly changing and revalidating CLAW and FADEC integration. Even though the EJ200 is the better engine. At least ADA/GTRE is being more practical trying to deliver within timelines and more circumspect about their capabilities. They are maturing.
