Kaveri engine to be installed in 2018

Bangalore, Sep 16 (IANS) The Indian-built engine for the country’s Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) may be ready for installation in 2018, a senior official of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has said.
“The gas turbine engine Kaveri will replace the GE-404 engines which are now being put in the LCA,” DRDO’s chief controller of research and development Prahlada told reporters here.

The Kaveri engine, a Rs.2,000 crore project, is being developed by one of the DRDO labs based in Bangalore, the Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE).

Test runs of the first complete prototype Kaveri began in 1996.

However fed up by the delay in fully developing the engine, the defence ministry shelved its plans to build a fighter aircraft.

The Kaveri engine project got revived in 2006 following a joint venture formed between the DRDO and French company, Snecma, an engine-maker, to jointly develop it to fit in the LCA.

relax bro.....
even with these delays , all the effort that goes into kaveri wont be wasted....
a version of kaveri for IN ships is already under development...
kaveri will surely also power later blocks of tejas and definitely future AMCA ....
you have to be patient ..., engine manufacturing is one the most technologically challenging tasks there is.......

China starting a develoment on engine is still testing one. and they started earlier than we did.

Considering that fact we are still ok.
DRDO is not the issue here, the issue here os tech.
 
The bad thing about such late deadlines is,you"ll have to make the product as flexible as possible as the exisitng technologies by then will be obsolete.

Again It Recently Finished the High altitude Trials On an IL 76, and Would be done Once again In this October

Even If Kaveri Is Not On Track, We would Not be Obsolete With Aircrafts Would we???? And That PAKORA Is More than Enough to Take Some Pak Or A$$

ab sabko aapki tarah already tested cheezain nahi mil sakti na!

But it will fly with LSP-??(not sure which LSP but it is) this yr or may be next yr. after the final test in oct this yr the problem is that now iaf want more power (more then 90kn)that is why they are not goes for production or install in lca.
 
Why did they not invite russians for a JV initially?? They make some good engines..
