Kashmiris dwelling on both sides of the line of control and in other parts of the world will observe the Indian Republic Day, falling on January 26, as black day to invite the attention of the international community towards the continued illegal and forcible occupation of Jammu & Kashmir by India.

In Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK), preparations are under way to hold protest rallies and demonstrations in all ten districts of the liberated territory. These protest marches and rallies will be the hallmark of the scheduled black day.

The day also marks complete solidarity with the people of Indian occupied Kashmir.
The protest rallies are arranged by various social, political and public representative organizations representing people from all spheres of life including lawyers, journalists, members of the business community, laborers, students, women and social and political workers.

In occupied Jammu Kashmir, complete strike throughout the held territory, on the call of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) and supported by the AJK government, will be the hallmark of the day where life will come to a complete stand still following boycott of their routine activities by the Kashmiris belonging to all walks of life, the report reaching here said.

Kashmir marks black day under curfew

Amid strict curfew measures and flag-hoisting attempts by one of India's main political parties, Kashmiri people have observed India's Republic Day as a black day.

The Indian government deployed thousands of extra troops and imposed a round-the-clock curfew in a bid to contain the violent demonstrations, as Kashmiri leaders planned to stage nationwide protests against New Delhi's rule in the disputed Himalayan region.

However, thousands of anti-India protesters led by Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik marched towards a landmark in Srinagar in defiance of the curfew.

Indian troops made several arrests after angry protesters attempted to hoist Kashmir's flag at major locations across the city.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), India's second-largest political party, also urged thousands of Hindu extremists to march towards Kashmir.

The key political leaders in Kashmir denounced the moves as "provocative" and urged India to end its prejudice against the people of Kashmir.

The developments come as India is celebrating its 62nd Republic Day under heavy security. On January 26, New Delhi honors the memory of the time when the Constitution of India came into effect in 1930.

The Republic Day Parade takes place in capital New Delhi, where the president views the parade.

State capitals also have their own celebrations. Security has been tightened in and around sensitive areas across India.

Around 35,000 police personnel, including 15,000 members of the paramilitary forces and elite National Security Guard have been deployed in New Delhi for the event.

In Kashmir, last year was marked by waves of prolonged unrest and violence. The disputed region's economy suffered severely as a result of last year's general strikes and anti-government protests.

The developments come at a time when violence continues to wreak havoc in the troubled valley.

Kashmir is one of the world's most militarized areas and roughly half-a-million Indian forces are stationed across the valley.

The region has been gripped by a string of violent protests since last year, when a teenager was killed by police. More than 110 people have so far been killed in the unrest.

The Kashmir valley has either been under curfew or shut down over the past four months. Residents have been complaining about the shortage of food, medicine and other supplies.

Thousands have been killed in the volatile Indian-administered Kashmir since 1989.

Several regional and international rights groups, including Amnesty International, have called on India to take immediate steps to protect and respect human rights in Kashmir.

LOL.. Their ability to indulge in this protest is really the freedom you claim they lack. On the other hand, we all know what happen to people (especially the journalists) who talk / write against the state/Army in Pakistan

Kashmiris observe Indian Republic Day as Black Day

Police prevents Hindu nationalist party from raising India flag in Srinagar

Kashmiri people living on both sides of the Line of Control and across the world on Wednesday observed the Indian Republic Day as ‘Black Day’ to protest Indian occupation and apprise the international community of their responsibility regarding implementation of the United Nations resolutions on Kashmir which guarantee the right of self-determination.

Thousands of police in Indian-held Kashmir (IHK) prevented a Hindu nationalist party and a separatist group from raising flags for their opposing causes in a central square on Wednesday to mark India’s Republic Day. Separately, India celebrated its Republic Day under heavy security, with tensions running high in Kashmir over efforts by Hindu nationalists to hold a rally in the troubled region’s state capital.

The All Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC), AJK chapter organised an anti-India protest sit-in outside the United Nations Observers Office in IHK. Forceful anti-India demonstrations were held in Srinagar, Baramulla and Sopore areas on Wednesday.

Scores of men, women and children took to streets and staged pro-freedom and anti-India demonstrations against the arrest of a university student, Showkat Bashir, by Special Operation Group at Bumai in Sopore.

According to KMS, the protesters were chanting slogans like “We want freedom”, “Go India Go”, and demanded immediate release of the university student. Two policemen were injured during clashes with pro-freedom protesters at main chowk in Baramulla and Batamaloo in Srinagar. agencies

It is a black day indeed for Indian-occupied Kashmir, captive Northeast India and the Maoist areas who all deserve to be free.

(That's what Indians say about Tibet so they can't complain here. :azn:)

no, it needs motivation; and that motivation is desire for Freedom !!

P.S. and surely they deserve international support on every plateforum. India just cannot get away with all the war crimes it has committed against the Kashmiri people.
