SRINAGAR: A complete shutdown is being observed in Indian occupied Kashmir (IoK) today to mark protests against attacks by Hindu mobs on Kashmiris in the valley.

According to Kashmir Media Service (KMS), the call for strike was given by trade bodies such as the Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Forum and Kashmir Economic Alliance in the occupied valley.

All shops and business establishments have been closed and public transport is off the roads due to the strike.

On the other hand, Indian occupied forces have suspended mobile and internet service in most parts of the valley and strict restrictions have been imposed to prevent any protests.

At least 44 Indian paramilitary soldiers were killed on Thursday in Srinagar-Jammu Highway in Awantipora area of Pulwama district. The soldiers were killed when an improvised explosive device (IED) went off as a convoy of military vehicles drove by, some 20 kilometres from the main city of Srinagar.

Following the Pulwama attack, Kashmiris have been targeted in IoK by Indian security forces and Hindu extremists.

More than 2,000 people have taken shelter in a mosque in the Bathindi district fearing attacks from Hindu extremists, KMS reported.

A resident of Bhatindi, Nouman Manzoor, said, “Over 2,000 people are stationed at Makkah Masjid in Bathindi right now and more people are pouring in. These include stranded Kashmir-bound passengers and people living in sensitive zones of Jammu district.”

Abdul Majid, a resident of Ganderbal district in Kashmir Valley, said, “I am part of a group comprising around 700 people and we had gone to visit Ajmer in 15-16 buses. We returned a couple of days ago, but as the Jammu-Srinagar highway was shut, we were putting up at Narwal.”

“On Friday, a group of Hindu hooligans came to the area and pelted stones on us. They damaged our buses and misbehaved with us. Fearing violence, we came to Bathindi, last night,” he added.

Saddam Hussain, another resident of Bathindi, said, “Around 2,000 people are putting up at Mecca Masjid right now, with more pouring in from all quarters.”

Kashmiri people should intensify their struggle ..

They HAVE been shut down @Zibago. There are mobs gathering in Jammu.

The army is on full alert.

Train and truckloads of irate junta pouring in. Things could get very ugly very quickly.

There is chatter on WhatsApp groups about stopping trains and trucks into the valley.

No fuel.

No produce.

No tourists.

And nothing comes out either.

These are some of the things our government and forces and security and administrative machinery are currently battling.

Cheers, Doc

Good shut down and prepare for the Jammu mobs (if they have the balls) with everything they have. The army would probably prevent it all though.

We are with you people of Kashmir

Rembember THIS IS WHAT JINNAH WARNED ABOUT

India is a hindutva state no place for a muslim Kashmir to be part of

Only a strong Pakistan can give them the tight slaps they deserve

What is happening today we knew would happen, only Kashmir becoming part of Pakistan will protect you

Actually , Indian govt brought in settlers in Jammu , majority of these settlers are families and friends of ex army officers and hand picked Hindu families. They are not Kashmiri. They are the one who are now creating mess with the help of Indian intelligence and armed forces.

Keep up the good work, because those measures will bring them closer to Pakistan and they will put more effort to be free from India.

I don't know about the apologists, but save for my first one or two years here battling on Kashmir with guys like @AgNoStiC MuSliM I have always worked on the base premise that the valley Kashmiris are not our people and are a hostile enemy force on our land.

So NOTHING changes there.

Cheers, Doc

What crap is this?

Kashmir belongs to the people who live there which turns out to be the Muslim majority.

I had made a couple of posts regarding this particular view among many Indians I have come across a few days before your post - reposting them here:

You know what the biggest difference between the Pakistani approach towards COIN in Balochistan and FATA vs the Indian approach in J&K (aside from the legal aspects of J&K being disputed territory of course)?

You never (aside from the occasional angry rabid outlier) hear Pakistanis talk about 'settling people from all over Pakistan in FATA and Balochistan to marginalize the local population' like you hear the Indians talk about in J&K. It points to a mentality that dehumanizes the Kashmiris and essentially doesn't really care for them. Even when Pakistan was suffering from a massive number of terrorist attacks and casualties from groups based in the Tribal areas, an overwhelming majority of Pakistanis never considered 'supplanting the local Pashtun population with Pakistani Punjabi or Sindhi settlers'. The same case with Balochistan.

It's not just limited to the average Indian, the BJP government's desire to revoke article 370 reflects much the same thing.

My point is that many Indians and parties like the BJP don't really see Kashmiris as 'Indian' - they see the territory/land as Indian, but not the Muslim residents. Pakistan and Pakistanis, regardless of how long the violence in Balochistan and FATA has been going on, make a distinction between the violent groups fighting the Pakistani State (we're all for wiping them out by any means possible) and the average resident of Balochistan and FATA. Yes, there are derogatory stereotypes out there, but a majority of Pakistanis still view the residents of Balochistan and FATA as our Pakistani and Muslim brothers and sisters. If someone ever brings up something like 'just settle Balochistan with Punjabis' or 'settle FATA with outsiders' the rest of us demolish that argument.

Demographic change should not be forced upon a people, especially your own citizens.

Can India ever win the hearts of the Kashmiris when it can't really bring itself to see them as equals, and sees them as more of a pestilence on land that India claims?

It is as it is buddy.

Personally, as a Parsi, I am.extremely outraged by a people who persecute, kill and drive out their brothers for following their ancestral faith.

It hits very close to home for me.

Closer if the offending faith is militant exclusivity Islam that looks at other faiths as legitimate targets.

I am equally offended when the same was done recently to Muslims by Hindus in UP.

But with the Kashmiris, the fact that they want to secede and attack our forces, simply puts them beyond the pale.

We will hold the land.

We haven't yet developed a national debate and consensus on what to do with the people.

Cheers, Doc

If you can't win hearts and minds, it has to be 'genocide' - either demographic (encouraging settlers to move into the region) or a literal 'culling of the natives'.

The latter is problematic because the international community won't stand for it and will really allow the flood gates to open from the Pakistani side in terms of open material support for the insurgency.

The former would be easier to push through globally, but will significantly escalate tensions in Kashmir and likely make the insurgency boil over. It'll still provide Pakistan with a 'way in' (in terms of increased material support), though perhaps not as overt.

I touched upon some of the options being discussed in my reply to @waz.

The mood right now is to push ALL of them out of our states and back to theirs.

No reason they should mooch off us when they are getting everything on a platter and ridiculously subsidised rates.

There is a viral video of a sure trucker that puts things into a very ground level perspective for common folk.

Food. Water. Electricity. Zero competition. And a cess on every kilo of produce that goes INTO Kashmir that goes directly into the coffers of the seperatists.

And who pays for all of that?

We. Who cannot go and settle there. Buy land. Start businesses. While their guys get to have all of that AND do all of that in OUR states.

That's going to stop now. Already has. They are not welcome in India anymore.

All we need to do is stop tourism. And prevent goods coming out from there.

They will come to their senses.

Next would be the national power grid. That goes through Jammu.

We've already clamped down and throttled cellular and internet networks.

They can grow what they eat. Drink their own water. Generate their own electricity.

And if need be, they can did their own oil wells too. Or ride bullock carts and rickshaws.

Cheers, Doc
