A kashmiri student was shot at by two unidentified youths at a bus stand near the district panchayat building in Ujjain on Saturday.

Sabir Ahmed, a resident of Baramullah, was admitted to the district government hospital in Ujjain and later shifted to Indore. The 27-year-old is doing his M Phil in English from Ujjain’s Vikram University.

According to reports, Ahmed was waiting for a bus at around 11:15 am, when two youths on a motorcycle asked him for directions. The youths later returned to shoot him. Ahmed managed to run away after taking a bullet.

Ujjain SP Rakesh Gupta said Ahmed’s condition was stable. The police did not speculate on the identity of the attackers.

Ahmed , who was staying with nine other Kashmiri students at a rented house in Sethinagar, told the police that he did not have any enemies and, hence, could not name any suspect. His friends also could not throw any light on the possible motive behind the attack.

After visiting Kashmir for a month, Ahmed had returned to Ujjain only a few days ago. About 80 Kashmiri students are studying in Ujjain.
