Kashmir Rejects Election Drama

As a Lucknowi Pakistan I have noted many biases and deprivation of rights that is responsible for a lot of people not considering themselves Indian and in some of our relatives case Pakistani. The reasons are many and I do not have time to list them out but Muslims have always from the start been treated as different outsiders. They are not given equal rights and are at the bottom of the financial and education situation. Kashmiris are the smartest of all muslims in Indian occupied parts. They know with hindu fanatics it is impossible to live in a united India.
What pray is a Lucknowi Pakistan ?

In the past few years Kashmiris did used to go to election booth so that Indian state can fix their local issues like fixing their sewerage lines or build gutter for them
Not true.

This is what is happening in Kashmir. The terrorists have systematically been attacking our democracy>>>

These terrorists are not just burning down poll booths but schools. where would the kashmiri kids go to study? They are being pushed to a dark future where they would be left with no option other than to pick up guns.

Deaths and injuries sustained by Kashmiris: Majority vote by staying away from State By-election
Global Village Space |

The world’s largest democracy, India, saw violent clashes between soldiers and protesters in Sunday’s by-election for the Srinagar Lok Sabha seat in which eight people died. The by-election itself which had been boycotted by the Kashmiri opposition parties had a poor voter turnout of only 7.14 percent. Elections were being held in Srinagar and in ten other constituencies in eight states, including New Delhi’s Rajouri Garden.

Kashmiri resistance groups have now called a two-day strike from Monday to protest the eight deaths and 175 injuries that occurred. Over 100 security forces were also injured.

The 2014 parliamentary polls saw a 26 percent voter turnout and before that previously, lowest recorded turnout has been 11.93% in 1999 when Omar Abdullah defeated Mehbooba Mufti in a straight contest.

According to state poll panel chief Shantmanu, re-polling could be ordered “anywhere around 50 or 100 polling stations or more”. In all, by-elections were held in nine assembly constituencies in six states, besides the Srinagar parliamentary seat.

Shantmanu, who is Jammu and Kashmir chief electoral officer admitted that the by-poll in Anantnag on April 12 will pose big challenges.

“There were more than 200 incidents of violence, mostly in Budgam district, which included stone-pelting, petrol bomb attacks, setting fire to a polling station and some vehicles, and an attempt to burn two more of the polling booths.”
– Shantmanu

A boycott of by-elections in Kashmir was called by the separatists after the violence broke out. According to the separatists, it is not the right time to exercise democracy in Kashmir especially after the protests that took place as a result of Burhan Wani’s killing.

To enforce the boycott, people took to the streets beyond the constituency, straddling Srinagar, Budgam, and Ganderbal districts.

Mehbooba Mufti, chief minister of the troubled state of Jammu and Kashmir, has made a huge political statement by calling for the cancellation of the election in Anantnag on April 12. It is a seat she vacated as Member of Parliament and her brother, Tasaduq Mufti, is the PDP candidate.

Mehbooba’s call comes on the heels of the violent bypoll in Srinagar where eight were killed and only 7% cast their vote. The meagre turnout, by no means, reflects a popular mandate and many would argue that the Srinagar election should be declared null and void, for the winner – with a little over 3.5% of the vote – is clearly not the people’s representative.

If Anantnag votes – as it is slated to in less than 48 hours – the percentage could even be lower because it falls in South Kashmir, the region which was rocked with unprecedented protests in July last year after the killing of militant commander Burhan Wani. South Kashmir is – was would be more appropriate – the PDP’s stronghold and a single-digit voter turnout would be a direct referendum on Mehbooba’s legitimacy as chief minister.

The ruthless use of pellet guns continues

Well that's the sad part...

We just don't nip the problem in the bud. Instead of going for these misguided people, we should technically go after Geela-ni, Malik and Mirwaiz.

After that, no one will get injured.

Indians are losing Kashmir everyday more.. What a misery, they are even out of their lame duck excuses.

the shambles of the so called largest democracy in the world which has a 7% voter turn out in a state that it occupies illegally

what a farce india has become. and what a slap on modi and GOI's face when only 7% turn out to vote.

.
Surprised they haven't blamed ISI for the voter turnout.

They are running out of excuses.

. . .
That's the problem; you don't know what is going on here, do you?

Ignorance is bliss. I don't give a damn how united or divided your religion is outside of my country. Here things are however, very different. On our side of the border, shiites are much more tolerant and open-minded than the sunnis of Srinagar Valley. So much so that even they get targeted as 'traitors' when they rationalise something.

As a result, many have fled to other parts of India alongside the Kashmiri pandits and others.

If you choose to believe it, good.

If you think this is some crazy conspiracy, even then good for you.

We simply don't care.

I know everything. It is the same old policy of divide and rule. Keep this crap to yourself and your sanghi shakhas.
