Muzaffarabad Tigers cruised to a seven-wicket victory over the Overseas Warriors in the third match of the Kashmir Premier League (KPL) in Muzaffarabad on Sunday.

Chasing a target of 154-runs, the Tigers were off to a cautious start.

Opener Malik Nisar was the first to depart, caught by wicketkeeper Azam Khan, off the bowling of pacer Sohail Khan after scoring 15 runs off 15 balls.

Opener Zeeshan Ashraf was stumped by the wicketkeeper off the bowling of Kamran Ghulam after scoring 18 runs off 17 balls.

Ghulam then removed veteran all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez.

Batsmen Sohaib Maqsood and Sohail Akhtar then combined to steer their side over the target.

Maqsood remained unbeaten after scoring 52 runs off 38 balls while Akhtar remained unbeaten after scoring 58 runs off 28 balls as their side chased down the total with seven wickets to spare in 17.2 overs.

Earlier, Overseas Warriors’ captain Imad Wasim won the toss and elected to bat first.

The Warriors were off to a horrible start as pacer Sohail Tanvir bowled batsman Uthman Ali for a golden duck.

Explosive batsman Haider Ali came out with positive intent and played a breezy knock of 27 runs off 14 balls before being adjudged LBW off the bowling of pacer Arshad Iqbal.

A cluster of wickets fell next as batsmen Azam Khan (five off four), Kamran Ghulam (golden duck) and Mohammad Haris (eight off nine) fell in quick succession.

Opener Nasir Nawaz, who had been cautious in the middle, was then adjudged LBW off the bowling off leg-spinner Usama Mir as the Warriors found themselves in significant trouble.

Tailender Abbas Afridi (six off 10) then fell to pacer Arshad Iqbal before all-rounder Imad Wasim and tailender Sohail Khan combined for a stable partnership to get their side to a decent total.

Sohail Khan remained not out after scoring 26 runs while Imad Wasim was caught off the bowling of Mohammad Wasim Jr in the end as their side managed 153 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted overs.

Usama Mir was the pick of the bowlers for his side after taking three wickets.

Asad Shafiq’s 43-run unbeaten knock helped Bagh Stallions beat Kotli Lions by five wickets on Saturday in the second match of Kashmir Premier League (KPL).

Chasing a target of 170, Shan Masood and Zeeshan Malik made a solid start and scored 18 runs each. Khurram Shehzad picked up the wickets of Shan Masood and Rohail Nazir to peg Stallions back.

With three wickets down, Asad Shafiq formed a crucial partnership with Iftikhar Ahmed to keep Stallions on track for the target. Imran Khan broke the partnership by removing Iftikhar for 29. Aamer Yamin also made a vital contribution of 27 from just 16 balls, before succumbing to Imran as well.

As wickets kept falling, Shafiq kept calm and took Stallions over the finish line with Umaid Asif hitting a six to reach the target in the last over.

Earlier, Lions were bowled out for 169 after opting to bat first. They were dealt an early blow as they lost both their openers cheaply.

Ahsan Ali did a fantastic job rebuilding the innings and scored 51 runs in just 37 deliveries. After Ali’s departure, hard-hitting batsman Asif Ali’s blistering 39 run inning from 20 balls kept Lions going at a healthy run-rate. Asif’s stay at the crease came to an end courtesy of Mohammad Imran, who picked up three wickets.

Young batsman Saif Badar also contributed with a gritty 37-run knock from just 27 balls, before being caught behind on the bowling of Umaid Asif.

However, the Lions kept losing wickets at regular intervals, with Umaid Asif cleaning up the tail and finishing with three wickets.

Bagh Stallions beat Mirpur Royals by 15 runs in a high-scoring encounter on Sunday in the Kashmir Premier League (KPL).

Chasing a target of 212 runs, Royals lost their opener in the first over as Mukhtar Ahmed was bowled by Aamir Yamin for a duck.

Royals had no time to settle down as Sharjeel Khan and Muhammad Akhlaq went into the attack mode from the get go. Both openers took a particular liking to Muhammad Ilyas. Sharjeel hit two sixes in Ilyas’ first over, before Akhlaq accumulated 23 runs in the pacer’s second over, courtesy of three sixes and a four.

Sharjeel Khan hit a six off Umaid Asif in the 11th over to bring up his fifty in just 31 balls. Akhlaq also completed his fifty in 30 balls in the same over. However, Umaid got his revenge in the same over with Sharjeel getting caught by Zeeshan Malik for 57.

After Sharjeel’s departure, Royals kept losing wickets at regular intervals, which increased the required run rate. Amir Sohail struck crucial blows in the 16th over, when he removed well-set Akhlaq for 68 and Amad Butt for a duck.

Royals needed their most senior batsman and captain Shoaib Malik to stand up but he could muster only 11 runs before getting dismissed by Umaid Asif, who also picked up two wickets.

Salman Irshad hit Ilyas for a four and a six in the final over, but it wasn’t enough as Royals finished with 196/8 in their 20 overs.

Earlier, Stallions were dealt an early blow after opting to bat first as they also lost Zeeshan Malik in the first over of the innings for a duck. He was trapped lbw by Mohammad Irfan.

Shan Masood stitched an important 90-run partnership with Rohail Nazir. The wicketkeeper-batsman scored 36 before he was clean bowled by Salman Irshad.

Masood found an able ally in Asad Shafiq and kept on building a perfect platform to launch an attack. The left-hander played a brilliant 78-run knock in just 45 balls. The opener was removed by Amad Butt in the 15th over, after which Asad Shafiq carried the mantle and did the bulk of scoring.

The middle-order batsman scored a blistering half century in 21 balls to follow his unbeaten 43-run from yesterday. Shafiq scored 55 and was dismissed by Irshad, who picked up three wickets.

A late 30-run cameo from 15 balls by Aamir Yamin helped Stallions post a mammoth 211/6.
