from the horse's mouth...

"Sharif was reluctant to withdraw before the meeting with Clinton was announced (again, his problem was maintaining face); but after I insisted, he finally came around and he ordered the withdrawal. We set up a meeting with Clinton in July."

this should clear any doubt that indian army was effective..... as shown by it's poor performance in recent times, they were totally incompetent in driving out the superb North light Infantry...

There is no mention of Indian action in the op.i will sum up what's in the op

"According to him America intervened decisively in 1999 to end the Kargil stalemate between India and Pakistan and provided a face saving exit to Nawaz Sharif. General Pervez Musharraf, according to Zinni, "encouraged the then PM to hear out the US withdrawal proposal". When Kargil took place General Zinni was sent on a special mission to Pakistan by President Bill Clinton."

But some how a genius came up with the incompetence of India. :-)

well, DUH! There's a reason why the highest peak in kargil point 5353 is still firmly under Pakistan's control. I've always maintained that at the end of the day, Pakistan won, walked away with the upper hand in the battle with the highest peak in its control that over shadow practically all the hills in the region along with the lone, single high way that supplies the indiane of siachin. indians can put all the linguistic gymnastics, twists and turns they want, it doesn't change the fact that the indian army lost a major strategic peak and couldn't get it back even if they shit themselves in their camo pants trying (and they did shit themselves).

You lack analytical capability.

India claimed Operation Vijay was a success.

My research shows, IAF was ineffective and IA even more so... in the end US pressure resulted in Pakistan's withdrawal and hence ending the border war. General Zinni endorses the same... ie No skill on the Indian Army

The end point to keen followers is what happened in Galwan is of no surprise. Indian Army is well behind China and Pakistan in terms of soldier quality and tactics.

and even then, in spite of clinton's support, india ended up suffering a net loss of loosing the highest peak in kargil which they couldn't get back even after taking over 30,000 casualties.

the problem is that indian army (along with their air force and navy) lack something that can neither be bought with money nor taught during training...THAT AGGRESSIVE WILL TO FIGHT!

Looks like Musharraf wants to return to Pakistan. :hitwall::hitwall:
maybe, maybe not. but one thing is for sure...point 5353 ain't returnin' back to india!

and fyi, it was Musharraf that turned operation "indian vijay" into operation "indian vijayna"! :woot:

y' guys seriously need to rethink this entire hindi language dude...its a troll's dream come true!!! :omghaha:

ven after taking over 30,000 casualties.

Pakistan Army estimates there were 2000+ casualties.
Looks like Musharraf wants to return to Pakistan. :hitwall::hitwall:

No body wants him.. for every one right thing he did 4 wrong things.

as Imran Khan has the right tone for the nation outlook for the next 50 years.. he isn't needed

You lost two helis and a jet
we had an abhinandon back then as well who we returned soon after.

They are aggressive and they are willing to fight. their issue is training, tactics and leadership

Exactly... Indian Army had no credit for taking back Kargil. ie it was useless.

Wrong but with due respect, they lost 3 jets and a heli and more casualties than Pakistan.

Remember this was a battle (Indians call it a war, because they are a bunch of drama queers), that was fought on what they claim to be their land. They never entered our territory.

it's the other way around. they are only aggressive and willing to fight against an unarmed and weak civilian population. at a single sign of retaliation, their "granpati bappa morya" turns into "bhaag bhosdi kay andhi ayi" REAL FAST!

Tactically the Kargil skirmish went well for Pakistan......but strategically it went well for India. This is a lesson that needs to be learned at PDF. Despite the strong performance of Pakistani forces on the ground....it overall showed to foreign strategists that Pakistan really had no strategic game plan against India and would remain mired in unresolved conflicts. So other nations tilted toward India. This allowed for an economic boom in India and stagnation in Pakistan that would only be exacerbated by the war on terror.

In hindsight, Pakistan would have been better served by taking out AQ and OBL in the late 90's and focusing on economic development of itself and Afghanistan. Until Pakistan builds the capacity to fight an all out conventional war to liberate Kashmir it should keep things quiet and build its strength. Kargil while a good tactical show, created a lot geo-political noise without advancing our goals in any way. AQ and OBL would only go on to hurt Pakistan's agenda even more.

Lol.
India has already successfully retaliated back by capturing Point 5310 which is located one kilometer deep on Pakistani side of LoC and is far more strategically important than 5353.

More importantly the peak of 5353 lies on Pakistani side of LOC so Pakistan is actually not on Indian side of LoC.

Pakistan as a nation could not sustain the war. Army can only fight if nation can afford it.
