Director-General Sindh Rangers Major General Iftikhar Hassan Chaudhary while criticising the international media on Monday said that Pakistan was not as bad as it is shown by the foreign media.

While speaking at Dow University in an event to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse, Maj Gen Chaudhary told the audience about the incident that happened to the Pakistani family in Canada as well as another criminal incident in the country.

“If incidents like those that happened in Canada happened in Karachi, then it would have been declared the world’s dangerous city,” said the DG Rangers.

The head of the paramilitary force said that Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy’s Oscar-winning film “Saving Face” was made after three incidents of acid attacks were reported in the country.

He then compared the situation in Pakistan with London, saying that more than 800 incidents of acid attacks were reported in the British capital yet no film was made and neither did the media report on it.

“10,000 knife attacks happened in Britain and no one got to know about them. Do you think London is safe?” asked the DG Rangers from the participants.

He also compared Karachi to New York, saying that in 2020, 1,638 or 1,688 armed robberies took place in New York while only 280 took place in Karachi.

“We are not as bad as we are made out to be and we have started thinking ourselves as bad,” said the DG rangers.

The head of the paramilitary force then explained the procedures followed by Sindh Rangers when it apprehends a suspect.

Maj Gen Chaudhary said that the Sindh Rangers "do not have the right to prosecute a suspect and can only keep an individual in confinement for 24 hours." He added that after 24 hours, the rangers are supposed to hand over the culprit to the police.

“Police has the prosecution rights, not us [Rangers],” said the Maj Gen Chaudhary, adding that the rangers did set up a joint prosecution team with the former Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Karachi.

The DG Rangers said that it was due to that joint prosecution team that the law enforcement agencies were able to identify the former Lyari gangster Uzair Baloch in five cases.

“Rangers work with other organisations, and we have made mistakes,” he acknowledged. However, he highlighted the importance of the rangers by telling the audience that a Karachi businessman had told him that he would move to Lahore if the paramilitary force leaves the city.

I don't know, but London is NOT a safe city at all, they've managed to become more violent than us even without guns.
It's literally bridled with stabbists, muggers, gangs, drug peddlers and what not. I repeat it's not a safe city at all.

. .
DG should visit london before speaking this nonsense.

Of course when you're moving around with paramilitary guards all around, it'll be the safest city for you.

My sister who lives in London died laughing while reading this. DG is comparing the shitty law enforcers here in Karachi with LEAs in London which respond within minutes and are least corrupt.

Also, as per him, only 280 armed robberies took place in the whole year in Karachi? Is he out of his mind or the stats provided to him are from siR zAid hAmId oNliNe jeHad stOre?

Its fuckin 280 robberies a day here in Karachi! Why don't he start moving around in a simple car like London Police chief does if he thinks Karachi is safer than London 😂😂😂

According to Sindh Police 2020 Crime statics:

Motorcycles Robbed: 1192
Personal Robberies: 4084
Home Robberies: 302

That's the official data for 2020 on Sindh Police's official website. DG sahb hosh sy kam len.

Lol for how long have you lived in London? Or if you've ever?

Yes, yes I have, for 2 months. Just compare the statistics of both cities. (And before you say Karachi is underreported, remember it's metropolitan city, unlike rest of Pakistan. And for sake of levelling the ground, multiply crimes such as petty theft and other "underreported crimes" with a factor of 1.5 (which is incredibly high), and you'll still see Karachi below likes of London.

.
He makes a good argument.

Statistically this appears to be the case.

The difference however is that he is DG Rangers not Commissioner Police. Karachi under police is just organized mafia wars.

What do you want him to do? That's official Sindh government figure.

You can argue no one bothers with the police or crime is hardly reported for various reasons but you cannot discredit the figure of 280.

Two months lol. I can't debate further.

That's what am saying. His stats are totally incorrect. I did a basic search which led me to official stats released by Sindh Police of the year 2020.

If a DG or his staff can't make basic google search then Karachi will remain what it is.

.
Very possible. USA police in most big cities have reduced enforcement to do political pressure. Combined with the pandemic this has led to an increase in crime.

The 22 incidents may have happened outside jurisdiction of Karachi.

His argument stands however about acid attacks, stabbings and hate crimes.

Karachi has infrastructure issues not crime.

Many cities are now suffering due to political pressure crime's, robbery's and Assault/Battery are up now in many parts of bigger cities in the East Coat. I'm a Risk Management Consultant and family owns lots of properties, and stat's are now showing since June of 2020.

DG Saheb, Double wagon mein 10 guards ko bitha kar to Waziristan bhi safe lagne lage.

Agar itna hi safe hai to why not visit openly and take out yout iphone xs max 256 GB openly on the streets ? Bara safe hai na ? NY mein to hum waise bhi ek bara aur ek chota mobile rakhte hain, Pakistan aakar direct iphone road par lekar ghomtay hain.

Lol, DG needs to get on facts instead of sugar coating
