Is PSP fighting the by election?

And MQM getting defeated on its seat is sweet.

I wish it was PTI getting the victory though!

According to unofficial results, Murtaza Baloch of the PPP secured 21,187 votes, while MQM’s Waseem Ahmed stood second in the contest with 15,553 votes. It was said to be the unofficial result of all the 134 polling stations. Muhammad Nadeem Memon of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) stood third in the contest with merely 5,580 votes. A total of 44,517 votes were polled in the by-election with turnout of 21 per cent. Senior leaders of the PPP, including Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Faryal Talpur, Nisar Khuhro and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, congratulated the party’s candidate, the PPP and voters of the constituency.

It is almost after 12 years that the PPP in the province managed to wrest back the PS-127 from the MQM. It was Abdullah Murad who last secured victory in this constituency for the PPP in the 2002 general elections. Later, however, the seat fell vacant after Abdullah Murad was assassinated in May 2004. In the later by-poll and general elections of 2008 and 2013, MQM’s candidates successively routed their opponents.

The areas falling under the PS-127 come mainly under District Malir. Being on suburbs of the city, both urban and rural areas were included in the constituency. It was an important by-election contest for both PPP and MQM. The PPP contested the elections to wrest back the seat after almost 12 years, while the MQM, facing internal conflicts and rifts in the backdrop of recent violent incidents in Karachi, had the uphill task to retain the constituency.

Though the by-polling was held from 8am till 5pm largely in a peaceful atmosphere, there were reports of widespread clashes between activists of rival political parties and candidates contesting the by-election. Some reports suggested that at least two persons were injured due to firing incidents during the by-poll.

There were a total of 20 candidates in the run, out of which five belonged to different political parties. The seat fell vacant after Ashfaq Mangi of the MQM resigned as an MPA and joined the MQM's arch-rival Mustafa Kamal-led Pak Sarzameen Party. Ashfaq Mangi had won the PS-127 in the general election of 11 May, 2013 by securing 59,811 votes and runner-up in the contest at that time was Ashraf Samoo, Advocate, of the PPP who had secured merely 15,158 votes.

There were in total 134 polling stations established for the by-election in the PS-127 constituency out of which 67 were declared highly-sensitive, while 49 polling stations were declared most sensitive from security's point of view. The total number of registered voters in the constituency was 207,467 out of whom 116,112 were males while 91,995 were female voters.
