KARACHI: The Mass Transit System in the metropolis will be completed in three phases, said Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan here on Friday.

Talking to the participants of the management courses at the Governor House, he said that the Mass Transit System includes monorail, rapid bus transit and infrastructure, and for this the government needed finances, so the efforts were being made in this regard.

He pointed out that the government was expanding thoroughfares and constructing roads which would help overcome the problems of traffic jams.

“Karachi is a well populated and because of this, there are more problems in the city.” He stated that for overcoming traffic problems, the government had constructed many corridors whereas work on some others was going on.

Ibad said that foreign investors were being invited to invest in the province especially in the city of Karachi.

He stated that the Chinese companies were investing here whereas European and Canadian firms also intended to invest here.

The governor pointed out that Karachi is the commercial hub of Pakistan, which generates 70 percent of the country’s revenue and owing to favourable investment climate here, the foreign investors were heading towards the metropolis.

He said that the government was also giving an attractive package for this sector.

Ibad also pointed out that in the fight against terror, Pakistan was a frontline state. He said that in Karachi, there were about 150 police stations, whereas crime was more in 25 of those police stations.

The governor said that President Zardari had directed him to provide full protection to the businessmen and traders.

He further stated that under a coordinated planning and strategy, the community policing was introduced in some of the areas. This, he said, had proved successful and crime rate had decreased in those areas.

This system would also be introduced in the residential areas, he concluded.
