Karachi Burned for Seven Days

Woudnt it have worked if he had just respected the results of elections and let mujib be the PM for a change and NOT listen to Bhutto?

If not , why not?

He did. He wanted Bhutto and Mujeeb to come to terms by making a deal. It was the absolute positions of these two politicians that led to the split. Mujib had won and should have been the PM of Pakistan...this is where Bhutto decide to play the East vs. West Pakistan card. Yahya is to be credited with holding the fairest elections in the history of Pakistan. His failure was that he was unable to convince Bhutto and Mujeeb to reconcile.

I really doubt if any shore based radar facilities were 'taken out'

As per PN sources, it indeed was but thanks for sharing the narrative. Always good to know how things were perceived by the other side.

But why should Mujib reconcile with sharing power with bhutto - mujib had a clear majority didnt he? Why was bhutto needed in the eqaution.. it was a matter between Yahya and mujeeb.

Because Bhutto had the street power behind him in WP and Mujeeb in EP. For a stable situation, both Bhutto and Mujeeb were needed to be brought on board.
