Karachi-bound ship carrying explosives intercepted​

A ship carrying explosives from a Bangladesh port to Karachi was intercepted by security agencies on the Hooghly river channel on Friday evening, officials said.

The vessel, coming from Chittagong in Bangladesh, did not have the necessary clearance for carrying explosives, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) sources said.

The vessel 'Agean Glory' was registered in St Vincent, Liberia.

"When we checked the papers, we found the vessel had not provided the mandatory declarations for carrying explosives to the Kolkata Port Trust and customs officials," the officials said.

The Coast Guard, navy, customs and the CISF personnel are aboard the vessel interrogating the crew.

There, it seems these people have too much free time. I mean, either coast guard should search them or customs. Why all four?

That's so inefficient. Besides making sure no illegal-mechant shipping activity takes place is the job of Coast guard and that no one crosses the borders lies with Customs. But man, that is utter waste of time.


Sorry, but this is just ridiculous.
You need, Navy, Coast Guard, CISF and Customs, all four to check one ship?



I assume Navy was too busy meddling with merchant ships when the alleged Mumbai terrorists went through sea lane into India.

You don't even know the findings of investigation yet, type of explosives on board, any fuses or detonators and you reach a conclusion.

Obviously I m doing certain bit of assumption over here.No mining company will send explosives illegally.Btw,mining companies in Pakistan dont import their explosives..So,the obvious question is why carry explosives all the way from Chittagong to Karachi in a vessel without clearance????the very first thing that clicks in mind is terrorists.The actual links may not ever be found out.But what else u might need to make an assumption of involvement of a terrorist nexus in this???A letter hand-written by Osama-bin-Laden himself???

Hey come on man! We should be appreciative that this ship was intercepted, thanks to India. If it had reached us, and unluckily we could not detect it, it would have cost some more lives. At least, thanked god, that this explosives weren't use at anyone
