Kangana Ranaut Permanently Removed From Twitter After Controversial Post

Please could you provide sources for what you have posted?

Here are a few links which state that she was actually involved in the rebellion...duh.

However, I'll agree that she has been propped up by nationalists to resemble some sort of a warrior who fought for Indian independence when after all, she fought to save her own kingdom (I'm assuming you know of the context, Doctrine of Lapse and all or maybe if you don't which is looking more likely, please read up on it).

Letter from Lakshmibai to Major Erskine dated 12th June 1857. This is the British translation from her original Persian.

Translation of Khureeta of the Ranee of Jhansee to the address of the Commr. and Agent Lieutenant Governor, Saugor Division dated (supposed) 12th June 1857.

After compliments. States that the Govt. forces, stationed at Jhansie, thro' their faithlessness, cruelty and violence, killed all the European Civil and Military Officers, the clerks and all their families and the Ranee not being able to assist them for want of Guns, and soldiers as she had only 100 or 50 people engaged in guarding her house she could render them no aid, which she very much regrets. That they the mutineers afterwards behaved with much violence against herself and servants, and extorted a great deal of money from her, and said that as the Ranee was entitled to succeed to the Reasut, she should undertake the management since the Sepoys were proceeding to Delhi to the King.

That her dependence was entirely on the British authorities who met with such a misfortune the Sepoys knowing her to be quite helpless sent her messages thro' the Tehseeldar of Jhansie, the Revenue and Judicial Seristadars of the Deputy Commissioner's and Superintendent's Courts to the effect that if she, at all hesitated to comply with their requests, they would blow up her palace with guns. Taking into consideration her position she was obliged to consent to all the requests made and put up with a great deal of annoyance, and had to pay large sums in property, as well as in cash to save her life and honour.

Knowing that no British Officers had been spared in the whole District, she was, in consideration of the welfare and protection of the people, and the District, induced to address Perwannahs to all the Govt. subordinate Agency in the shape of Police &c. to remain at their posts and perform their duties as usual, she is in continual dread of her own life and that of the inhabitants.

It was proper that the report of all this should have been made immediately, but the disaffected allowed her no opportunity for so doing. As they have this day proceeded towards Delhi, she loses no time in writing.

Letter from Lakshmibai to Major Erskine dated 14th June 1857. This is the British translation of her original Persian.

Translation of a Khureeta from the Ranee of Jhansee to the address of the Commissioner and Agent Lieutenant Governor, Saugor Division dated the 14th June 1857.

After Compliments, States that on the 12th June she addressed the Commissioner on the subject of the awful events which have transpired in Jhansee and sent the Khut by Gungadhur Daugee and Bhowanee Hurkara. That she still continues to regret the fate of the Europeans of Jhansee and is convinced that greater cruelties could not have been enacted in any other place-- a detailed narrative of them is annexed to the Khureeta.

The further news since is that in all the Elaquas subordinate to Jhansie the Chiefs have taken possession of the Gurhees, while others are plundering the Country. That it is quite beyond her power to make any arrangement for the safety of the District as the measure would require funds, which she does not possess, nor will Mahasjuns in times like these lend her money. Up to the present time after selling her own personal property and suffering much inconvenience she has managed to save the town from being plundered and has kept up the form of the late Govt. she has entertained many people for the protection of the Town and Mofussil outposts, but without a competent Govt. Force and funds she sees the impossibility of holding on any further, she has therefore written out some remarks on the state of the district which is also sent herewith and trusts she may early be favoured with orders which she will see carried out.

Who is that? :cuckoo:
One is Bollywood actress and eyecandy, Kangana

Kangana_Ranaut_2013.jpg

and the other is her elder sister Rangoli, who is also her manager and partner in crime.

Both are notorious for indulging in controversial remarks and fights, on regular basis.
Hence, Twitter also does not appreciate their accounts.

nice talk, but modi will win again
With great chance, Trump also will come back 2024

by your theory, people not becoming wiser under ‘democracy’?
India is not uniform like China, Chinese system would not work in India. What would happen is all the upper caste, especially Brahmin will become Important Party members, they will give all the government position to their relatives and all the majority lower caste will be forced into factory labour in the name of nationalism. They would insert caste system from the backdoor into everything. Best not to give small group of people absolute permanent power in India.

India is like politically united Europe, each province, has different language and culture.

So now you are resorting to sharing an incomplete piece of an article which contains a letter from Rani Lakshmibai addressing Major Walter Erskine to defend your point?

Please read this article thoroughly, which also contains the letter you posted:

These are William Augustus' views on her from the same article:

“The Rani is remarkable for her bravery, cleverness, and perseverance; her generosity to her subordinates was unbounded. These qualities, combined with her rank, rendered her the most dangerous of all the rebel leaders.”

Are you seriously outright denying that she fought the British and was eventually killed? Her own adversary is saying that she was killed in the battlefield. You are funny🙂. You somehow want to prove that Rani Lakshmibai didn't fight against the British lol.

Good riddance. The ship (bjp) that she is riding will sink soon and she along with it. She already has made a lot of friends in bollywood

In the tweet that appears to have spurred this action, Kangana Ranaut seems to urge Prime Minister Narendra Modi to "tame" Mamata Banerjee using his "Virat Roop" from "early 2000s" in Bengal.

Kangana Ranaut Permanently Removed From Twitter After Controversial Post

Kangana Ranaut's account violated policy on "hateful conduct, abusive behavior", Twitter said today.

New Delhi:
Actor Kangana Ranaut's Twitter account has been permanently suspended after a controversial tweet related to the post-election result violence in Bengal. The account repeatedly violated Twitter policy on "hateful conduct and abusive behavior", the social media site said today.

The 34-year-old actor, unfazed, accused Twitter of race bias. "I have many platforms I can use to raise my voice, including my own art in the form of cinema," she told news agency ANI.

In the tweet that appears to have spurred this action, the actor seems to urge Prime Minister Narendra Modi to "tame" Mamata Banerjee using his "Virat Roop" from "early 2000s" in Bengal. She was reacting to a tweet by journalist-BJP leader Swapan Dasgupta on the violence in Bengal since election results were announced on Sunday; Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress - which won a landslide victory - and the BJP have blamed each other for the clashes and arson.

Kangana Ranaut's tweet sparked outrage and calls for action against the strident actor, whose timeline is filled with vitriolic posts.

"We've been clear that we will take strong enforcement action on behavior that has the potential to lead to offline harm. The referenced account has been permanently suspended for repeated violations of Twitter Rules specifically our Hateful Conduct policy and Abusive Behaviour policy," a Twitter spokesperson said, adding that the rules were applied judiciously and impartially to all.

"As explained in our abusive behaviour policy, you may not engage in the targeted harassment of someone, or incite other people to do so. We consider abusive behavior an attempt to harass, intimidate, or silence someone else's voice."

Kangana Ranaut is notorious for her outrageous, no-filter posts on social media, many of which are provocative calls to action.

The actor also posted a rant on her Instagram account earlier today.

In the teary-eyed harangue, she talks about "disturbing news, videos and photos from Bengal of people being murdered, gang-raped and their houses being burnt". She also calls for President's Rule in the state, criticising a "government that I support" for not doing more than dharnas in response to the clashes.

41CommentsLast year, Kangana Ranaut's sister Rangoli Chandel had provoked fury with a tweet blaming the Tablighi Jamaat for Covid spread.

The letters prove that she fought the British with full reluctance, which I know you will conveniently overlook, the only motivating factor was loss of rule due to Doctrine of Lapse.

She regains power in Jhansi right after the rebellion. She practically begs the British in the letter, and claims she had no role in killing of British or rebellion. The British don't believe her claims and lays siege to her fief. She hides in the center of fort in the middle of the town, while the populace in the town are being killed by British canon. When the siege is in its final stages. she choses not die valiantly with the civilian population and army of Jhansi, who fought and protected her so far. Instead, she runs to the only place, possible in her situation, to the rebel camp. There she faces battle for the first time, she is out of her fort. She dies due to a chance bullet fire from a unidentified hussar cavalry man, who doesn't even know he killed Rani.

As for the views of "Hugh Rose " who commanded the army that was fighting the revels, he said so for public relations, its common political tactic, and gaining some fame by comparing Rani to Joan 'O Arc.

Joan O Arc fought the English openly, motivated her French countrymen to fight English, she did not write any pleading letters to English like Rani, Joan O' Arc was captured, tortured and burned alive. Rani died by a chance bullet from some British Light Cavalry man.

She clearly said that she didn't have any role in the massacre of British civilians under Captain Skene and instead, it were the rebels who killed them. And this was before she actually joined the rebellion (June 1857).

Depends on how you see it, she didn't flee immediately after the British started the siege but only just one day before the fort was stormed into. I don't see running away to fight another day as a bad thing particularly when you know that fighting is pointless. She being a leader, it was more important for her to survive as people's hopes and aspirations are mainly dependent on the survival of the leader (in those times), so it was doubly important for her to not die.
There she faces battle for the first time, she is out of her fort. She dies due to a chance bullet fire from a unidentified hussar cavalry man, who doesn't even know he killed Rani.
Before that, she and her troops had successfully stormed the fort of Gwalior.

And at least she fought, which you are even failing to acknowledge. This is 19th century India where women aren't even expected to be Ranis that should manage a whole kingdom and over here, she not only tried to defend Jhansi but also fought the Britishers like a man would. She could have easily surrendered Jhansi (which she didn't), even after Jhansi had fallen, even if she had run, she could've easily given up fighting instead of joining the rebels and fighting with them shoulder to shoulder. Surely, no one would have forced her to fight, as after all she was just a 'woman'. So whatever she did, she flouted the norms of 19th century India which is admirable for many people and even the British don't hesitate in praising her.

See, that's your take but his words are crystal clear on her. If you don't want to believe them, it's up to you:-).
Rani died by a chance bullet from some British Light Cavalry man.
Lol, this is how you really see it🤦‍♂️. So how did you want her die?

Coming to the motivation part, in post 55 I've clearly said that she did all this to save her own kingdom initially and it wasn't out of some desire to unite India. Like many kings of princely states, she used the Uprising to further her own interests.

I chose to see it with common sense and logic.

If she had given up Jhansi to British as she had agreed in writing in the letter, and only took charge as to provide temporary administration as she claimed. Then, only those responsible for killings would have been punished, instead she used Jhansi population literally as cannon fodder to further her selfish political ambitions. I don't think common civilians of Jhansi hoped and aspired to die for Rani's political ambitions.

She didn't storm fort of Gwalior, she just tagged along with Tatya Tope, the Nawab of Banda, Rao Sahib and other rebel leaders. and the rebel army.

She didn't fight the British, the local population of Jhansi faced the British more than she ever did, she just hid in the center of her fort, located at the other end of Jhansi town, and bailed out as soon as British mascaraed their way to her fort. That's not fighting like a man, its called scheming like a politician.

No, she had no other choice than to join the rebel camp, British would have hunted her down anywhere she hid, there was a huge bounty on her head. She used a rebel soldier's uniform as camouflage, to hide her identity and she planned to disperse into the populace. But, she got caught up in the commotion when British attacked her contingent of Rebel troops.

It is common in politics to give fictional poetic flavoring to story of a female. To manipulate psyche of the masses though emotions, the same masses Rani used as cannon fodder and abandoned quickly after use(like a mango seed), for her political ambitions.

I'm doubtful about this.

Instead of blaming this British for this indiscriminate massacre, which admittedly was a response to the killing of British civilians in Jhansi, you are blaming the Rani of Jhansi just because she chose to defend Jhansi. Just wow.

Any proof of this?
Here's another link: https://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/lakshmibai-the-warrior-queen-who-fought-british-rule-in-india

"In March of 1858, Rose’s troops descended on Jhansi, and the warrior queen led her troops into battle. Eventually, Jhansi’s resistance faltered, and the queen escaped into the night with her adopted son, decamping in a nearby town. "

"The other rebel leaders had not listened to her suggestion to prepare for an attack on Gwalior, and the fort fell on June 16, 1858. The rani was commanding a large Indian force the next day when she was killed in battle. "

Have you started confusing Kangana Ranaut with Rani Lakshmibai? Kangana Ranaut is just an actor who played Rani Lakshmibai so please direct all your protests to her instead of directing it at Rani Lakshmibai.
Again, any proof of this? You are just making up so many things. No leader will command so much respect if that leader isn't doing anything. Your hypothesis lacks substance and meaning.

To be honest, I haven't heard a single person who said that Rani Lakshmibai didn't fight the British, you are the first person who is saying this.🤷‍♂️
The Britishers themselves talk about her: Colonel Mason wrote in his History of the Indian Mutiny that ”whatever her faults in British eyes may have been, her countrymen will ever remember that she was driven by ill-treatment into rebellion, and that she lived and died for her country.”

Again, please don't think Rani Lakshmibai is Kanagana Ranaut. Maybe you are trying to equate the two 😂.

Few other quotes of Britishers themselves:
"She was the bravest and best military leader of the rebels. A man among mutineers," wrote Sir Hugh Rose. And Lord Cumberland said: "The Rani is remarkable for her bravery, cleverness and perseverance; her generosity to her subordinates was unbounded. These qualities, combined with her rank, rendered her the most dangerous of all the rebel leaders."

One John Latimer of the Central India Field Force even praised the Rani's military capabilities when he wrote 'Seeing her army broken and defeated, with rage in her heart and tears in her eyes, she mounted her horse and made her course towards Gwalior. Here the last stand was made, she disdained further flight, and died, with a heroism worthy of a better cause. Her courage shines pre-eminent and can only be equalled but not eclipsed by that of Joan of Arc'.
