Kalashnikov & Pakistan

A question to all the Pakistani members:

Word has it that there is extensive availability of pirated Kalashnikovs around the tribal regions of Pakistan which is domestically made unlike Africa where it is illegally exported. Is this true indeed or a false rumor?

love the ak its a legendary weapon and major part of history

Dont be proud of this thing, it is a recipe for disaster for a nation. It causes all sort of lawlessness, promotes sense of irresponsibility, crimes, supresion of the poor and powerless, a quick way of restoring justice instead of going through legal channells and alot more.

Yes, if everyone try to have gun then nobody will feel safe. A shift of attitude is absolutely necessary. For example you are talking about having a gun more of a pride than necessity and obigatory.

well the only way is forward this pandora box has been open for 3 decades and its irreversable we grew up with guns a major part of our wedding and social events it has turned into a necessity, the only way forward issue gun owners arms licences taleast to keep track of it other wise u will never know how many weapons are flowing into cities, regulate it if u start confescating them then we ll simply buy knew ones that wont stop any one.

but overall put aside my love for guns u r right, but how will u be able to convince the mases if u were given the task hard measures always backfire in pak.society

i'm a proud owner of 3 of them. Kept unloaded and locked away. There is nothin to be pleased about in having so many weapons in the country, we can see the effects of the (blatant lack of) gun control. Watch the movie Lord of War with my man Nicholas Cage. It's a real eye opener. Hopefully more would be done to ensure that proper licensing and background checks are in place so that they don't end up in the hands of vigilantes terrorists and bandits. Easier said than done however. Guns don't kill people; people kill people.

May i ask you a question? Is it common in Pakistan that most people have assault rifles at home? Also , why in particular you have 3? is there a threat in the are you live?

u misunderstood brov i gave u the whole picture,i will never be convinced to give up my gun never ever,i am pro-gun not anti gun infact i would like ak-47 to be our national symbol which should go with our national outfit like the arabs wear daggers ,it would be really cool if every pakistani would have his ak-47 with his shoulder on every event of significance let the world fear us,that behind the army is fully armed proud honorable citizen population that will put up a resistance whole world would not be able to suppress.:pakistan::pakistan:

Dear friend, this very false pride is getting your country into daily danger. Think about the level of violence that prevails in your cities these days. While it is easy to blame your adversaries i.e. Indians for continued violence, this sort of gun culture will in long run become a catalyst to disaster.

If one person has a gun, the other would buy soon, feeling insecure of the first person and then gradually people would start using them even in small and meaningless arguments and disputes.

There are a lot of nations around the world where crime rate is high. Ecuador, Peru even Brazil and Argentina have high crime rates as compared to here in Europe. But imagine if these countries have each and every citizen with an assault rifles. Many resource-rich countries like Uganda, Mozambique, Somalia etc have collapsed as a result of this gun culture, which when used so extensively becomes the very source of a country's collapse.

The best way to get away from this 'addiction' would be to think in terms of your country's development and spread this awareness to your friends and relatives. Try it instead of demanding licenses from government. If the government wants, they can refuse you licenses come and clamp down on weapons shops using force. But this cannot be done in democracies and since you have one now, it is best way to prevent the gun culture from flourishing.

Think about the negative effects this gun culture has brought to your Pakistan. This 'warrior' image gives a good feelings in Hollywood flicks and even in South Asian movies but in real life, it is disastrous.

brov u might have made valid points but its impossible in those countries to reverse it once the people are used to them, lets say american gvt tries to phase down gun licences and confiscate assault rifles from those red necks would it go down well with the people will the red necks give up their guns that easily, and beleive it or not in texas every person can own as many guns as he likes and caliber of his choice even a 50CAL. sniper rifle legaly, every person can get 2 licences of arms issued in a year, dude u just can't reverse the gun culture once it is in place, democracy further enforces it any party will be scared to do this for fears of negative reaction against them in polls, and this democracy of today which we have today has issued ak-47 licences to many of their relatives .so no way this is going back in the box.

so my opinion is if every one has a gun that will even out the situation then no one will be scared of no one, every one will know that the other person might be packing serious firepower, and a fight would be fatal thus resulting in more responsible and civilised society.
power to the people love democracy!
