Narendra Kiling, member of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council and a Congress youth leader was shot dead by unidentified miscreants at his residence around 11.45 p.m. Tuesday.
Two of Kilings armed body guards also sustained bullet injuries. The miscreants also took away three service rifles and around 70 rounds of ammo from the home-guards.
Meanwhile, KPLT (Karbi Peoples Liberation Tiger) has claimed responsibility of assasinating Narendra Killing. The claim was made by Nilip Enghee, general secretary of the outfit through telephonic call to the media.
Bokajan police revealed that, a group of around eight men with sophisticated weapons swooped inside the residence of Kiling. The alert security guards (six personnel) who tried to defend with archaic bolt action 303 Lee-Enfield rifles and one INSAS rifle, could not carry on for long against the spray of bullets from AK series rifles. In the gunfight, two home guards-- Dorsing Rongpi and Manob Puran received bullets injury.
On hearing the gunshots, Narendra Kiling bolted out of his room and tried to get out of the house however, the assailants shot him from the rear and was killed on the spot.
Sources questioned as to how six of the trained armed Home Guards could not even inflict/nab at least one of the assailants.
Police and army are combing all possible hideouts of KPLT, to nab the militants who carried out the attack.
Meanwhile, the Karbi Students Association, Inglongpho condemned the incident and has called a 12 hours general strike in Karbi Anglon district tomorrow (June 9).
Karbi Anglong District Congress committee also condemned the brutal killing of, Narendra Kiling. KADCC has urged the administration of Karbi Anglong district to apprehended and punish the culprits and also the Govt. to provide ex-gratia to the victims family immediately.
