K5 MISSILE TEST FIRED


The first stage falls off at 15 seconds...
It does look like the Fins remain intact after that..and missile remains manoeuvrable and able to maintain a level flight due to two sets of wings/Fins...

can somebody estimate the burnout time of second stage?
Take into account the length of first stage which is small,and estimate time as per burnout time 15 seconds of first stage...

Its not the first stage, its just a booster for giving good lift off the water surface...

Sir,2nd stage is not completed in that video,so no way to calculate it.

Hi,
The first missile is air beathing missile and needs to have a certain speed before its air intake can be opened and gas turbine engine started.
K-15 isnt air breathing and dont need any specific initial speed,only needs to clear the water surface before rocket motors can be ignited...

its the booster that separates at 15 seconds and then main solid motor kicks in.

Ok,so there are another two stages after that?
That means fins will fall off with the first stage?
Then how the missile maintains level flight and terminal phase manoevering?

Oh well,i am unable to make sense of many things about this missile.

booster also has fins and the first stage of missile too. Only the second stage is fins less.

A missile can be maneuvered without fins with the help of thrust vectoring. If you apply thrust vectoring in bullet, they can also be maneuvered.

Fin less missiles are like a stick which you try to balance on your index finger. And finger is the vectored thrust.
 
Achievement of mastery over a sequence of esoteric technologies by our scientists.

  • Precise delivery of its payload over the target.


All that remains to be tested are:

  • How the K-15′s nuclear warhead will fare during its hypersonic flight
  • White-hot re-entry into the atmosphere with it.

  • Both of the above points can be easily (alreday must have been) tested using telemetry inside the nose cone of the missile. All information regarding the temperature and pressure inside the missile will be already known. So there is no surprise here.

    Again The warhead designs were already tested in 1998. These are exactly the same that will be mounted or may be an improved version based on simulation testing.

    However, the last bit may remain an unknown, in view of India’s self-imposed 1998 test-moratorium and the comprehensive test-ban treaty.

    Actually nothing remains to be tested anymore for the operationalizing of K 15. I think that was one reason why everyone seemed so happy. Only putting this thing on the Arihant is remaining.

Total burnout time is 60 seconds...?

So after the first minute...it should follow a ballistic trajectory...unless it has something else up its sleeves.

There is a difference between a booster and a sustainer.

You can not compare a booster burnout to that of a rocket motor ... then whats the use of two stage rocket if it has to burn the fuel at the same rate that of the booster? why don't just extend the booster length across the whole rocket? .... the booster is used to push up the missile before the rocket motors fire in ... which have different configuration (more complicated and sophisticated) than that of the booster. The booster gives the initial acceleration in which relatively more fuel is burnt than once the missile is in sustained speed.

Just think off a basic rocket ....different stages...different burning rates ... the initial stage of a rocket burns a lot of fuel... thats why they are big and also strap on rockets are used to lift the whole mass that are stacked up above it ... but once the rocket catches the speed and you start shedding considerable weight when different stages fall off ... you burn less fuel..
