K C Verma appointed new RAW chief
Press Trust of India
Sunday, January 25, 2009, (New Delhi)

K C Verma, the Internal Security Advisor to Home Minister P Chidambaram, will be the next chief of country's external intelligence agency RAW.

Verma, a 1971-batch Jharkhand cadre officer will take over the responsibility after the tenure of the incumbent Ashok Chaturvedi comes to an end on January 31, official sources said.

The officer was earlier appointed as the head of the Narcotics Control Bureau in 2005, before being elevated as Secretary (Security) in the Cabinet Secretariat, they said.

Home Minister P Chidambaram had last month assigned him the additional responsibility of being his Internal Security Advisor, sources added.

He will have a lot of responsibilities as obama is squeezing PAK and the rugged elements in pak may push deep inside it for safe heavens.

May be they had given ultimate target of taking all nukes from pak hand....lol

The development comes as a surprise, as it was earlier believed that the competition to head India's external intelligence agency after its current chief Ashok Chaturvedi retires on January 30 was between P V Kumar, the senior-most officer of the organisation after Chaturvedi, and Sanjeev Tripathi, another senior officer.

K C Verma is a 1971 batch IPS officer. Throughout his career, Verma served the country's internal intelligence agency (Intelligence Bureau).

However, he is also a heart patient and not keeping perfect health.

K C Verma likely to be new R&AW chief
