India today successfully test-fired its Long range subsonic cruise missile Nirbhay from the Integrated Test Range(ITR) at Chandipur on sea off Odisha coast.

ITR sources said the 1000 km range missile was test-fired around 1156 hours from the launch complex three of the Integrated test Range at Chandipur, about 15 kms from here.

Sources said after blasting off from launch pad, the two-stage Nirbhaya took a unique trajectory in its entire path to the target.
Being a terrain hugging missile, Nirbhaya is difficult to detect by the enemy’s radars.

The missile keeps on encircling the area of its target for several minutes and then hits the bull’s eye’ on an opportune time, defence sources said.
Capable of carrying multiple payloads, the missile can engage several targets in a single flight.

This lethal weapon can be launched from various kind of platforms, ranging from surface lorry to a ship, from air and even from underwater vessels, ITR sources said. (AGENCIES)

भारत की प्रथम स्वदेशी निíमत परमाणु आयुध ले जाने में सक्षम सबसोनिक क्रूज मिसाइल निर्भय का बुधवार को चांदीपुर परीक्षण रेंज (आइटीआर) से सफल परीक्षण किया गया। इस मिसाइल की मारक क्षमता एक हजार किलोमीटर से अधिक है। मिसाइल को सुबह 11 बजकर 57 मिनट पर एकीकृत परीक्षण रेंज के लंच पैड तीन से एक मोबाइल लांचर के जरिए दागा गया। लंबी दूरी (700 से 1 हजार किलोमीटर) की मारक क्षमता वाली सबसोनिक क्रूज मिसाइल निर्भय का एकीकृत परीक्षण रेंज से कई बार परीक्षण किया जा चुका है। निर्भय का पहला परीक्षण 12 मार्च 2013 को किया गया था। भारत के पास 290 किलोमीटर दूरी तक मार कर सकने वाली सुपरसोनिक ब्रह्मोस क्रूज मिसाइल है। इसे भारत और रूस ने संयुक्त रूप से विकसित किया है। लंबी दूरी की मारक क्षमता वाली निर्भय मिसाइल रक्षा अनुसंधान और विकास संगठन (डीआरडीओ) द्वारा विकसित की गई एक अलग किस्म की मिसाइल है। निर्भय में धीमे आगे बढ़ने, बेहतरीन नियंत्रण एवं दिशा निर्देशन, सटीक परिणाम देने और रडार से बच निकलने की क्षमता है। आज इसके परीक्षण के मौके पर डीआरडीओ और आइटीआर से जुड़े कई वरिष्ठ वैज्ञानिक व अधिकारियों का दल मौके पर मौजूद था।

Of the three tests so far, 1st was failure, 2nd was a complete success and 3rd had successful launch but then aborted (partial success). The 4th one also seems to have successful launch and details are awaited.

Again that's wrong. The quoted range is 1,000km. But during the second test, it actually covered some additional waypoints, travelling a distance around 1,200km.

In operational conditions, the maximum effective range should always be 1,000+ km.
