What's new

Just 5 countries are home to half of world's poorest. World Bank.

It is interesting that in terms of per capita that India and BD were the same in 2015.BD would have slightly less poor than India in 2019.
Anyway the data confirms that Pakistanis are the wealthiest out of the 3 major S Asian countries.

UNDP+Oxford through MPI provides much better analysis given world bank itself acknowledges drawbacks of its methodology (if you read its report thoroughly).

So no, Bangladesh does not have "slightly less poor" than India in 2019 going by the trends in MPI.

Even if you go by solely world bank-style income poverty alone, Bangladesh is projected behind right now:

I am actually surprised to see Bangladesh in there. They do have very large population for the size of the country it is, but I didn’t realise its poverty level would be this high.

Where does Pak fall on the list, I see the other bit of orange, we might have 1% world poverty or slightly lower. Its not great news for the region that all 3 sub continental countries are in top 10 for being poor. The heck is the main problem? I wish this was a rhetorical question..
