I have nothing against Iranians and think they should hope you are wrong about this. It is the mullah that get them into trouble time and time again with their foreign policy.

No one knows who would be the next American president but trump getting re-elected is a very possible option. If you remember no one believed he was going to win the first time either.

Already it seems the sanctions are biting , otherwise the mullahs would not have taken the risks we have seen last week.

And Iran may to hold up till the next election, but i doubt they can hold on for another presidential terms nor is there any guarantee that a new president would drop the sanctions or how long it would take.

Iran is reacting to aggressive policy of american and violation of all int. agreements which undoubtedly has escalated the situation to the point of clash .. consequently it's them and their regional pawns to blame and ought to learn to behave rationally ... we didn't send our drones/boats to the american airspace .. we are not in their region threatening them with war ...
Any fair rational human being would acknowledge this.

And the US and their allies are reacting to decades of terrorism support by the government of Iran around the same region.

i would not have stepped out of the nuclear agreement with Iran, but i can understand that other people would be sorely fed up with Iranian international politics over the past few decades.

i would have instituted a sanctions program related to Iran's foreign militant policies, targeted neatly on the Iranian political, religious, military, intel, and civilian economy individuals, companies and organisations.

but now we see an escalation and greater chances of war happening.

the thing is, the militant foreign policies of Iran are utterly indefensible by Iran or any of it's allies whether at government level, or all the way down to the individual level.

so Iran can work itself into a war, but in any case : it won't get sanctions relief until the demands are met.

Sanctions were only there to give India unfair trade advantage and to show Iranian public, that they have no choice but to buy from India!

Iran is a deeply sectarian country that has been recruiting Pakistanis as canon fodder to achieve its geopolitical objectives in Syria and Iraq. In Yemen, they using Houthis as canon fodder for their geopolitical goals. In my opinion, Iran has earned the sanctions and US did the right thing walking away from JCPOA.
