Jordan to hire over 12,000 RMG workers from Bangladesh

Jordan’s readymade garments (RMG) sector will recruit over 12,000 skilled workers from Bangladesh in one year.
“This recruitment will be processed only through Bangladesh Overseas Employment and Services Limited (BOESL),” Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said on Tuesday, reports UNB.
One of the employers in Jordan met officials at the Bangladesh embassy in the country and his team will visit Bangladesh soon.

They have requested Bangladesh to allow the recruitment of skilled workers who do not have passports and facilitate providing the selected workers with passports in the shortest possible time.
"This is a good opportunity opening for us," Momen said.
Officials said they will do their best in processing and facilitating passports and other requirements for sending the workers in the shortest possible time.
Bangladesh is one of the largest exporters of readymade garment products in the world.
A number of Bangladeshi RMG workers are already working in Jordan’s readymade garment sector.
Earlier this month, Bangladesh Ambassador to Jordan Nahida Sobhan visited the largest garments factory in Jordan and assured the Bangladeshi workers of Classic Fashion Apparels that the Embassy would always stand by them to ensure their rights and welfare.

Exactly! I guess those 12,000 are skilled in their respective sectors. We need skilled labor in our own RMG sector. Plus, I have no idea about Jordan. Is it a viable source of a significant amount of remittance? I never heard about Jordan before. I could be wrong!

Still I reckon no one earns more than 300$ working in Jordan as a skilled garments labor. Add to that cost of living and supporting family back home.. the deal seems worse off to me sincerely since people would be away from their families most of the times

But why should the govt. export labor to Jordan, when the Jordanians intend to pay the workers as little as possible to keep the biggest portion for themselves? Probably at or even lower than local rates in Bangladesh.

The question does arise on why we should help Jordanian businesses corner an export market, when we can let Bangladeshi RMG businesses set up shop in Jordan and take advantage of their quota?? AND employ Bangladeshi workers to boot. Otherwise no deal...

Hopefully we can do both and have a win-win situation between two brotherly nations.
