Jordan threatens to expel Syrian envoy over missile comments!

AMMAN (Reuters) - U.S. ally Jordan threatened on Thursday to expel Syria's ambassador, after he warned the kingdom Syrian missiles could be used against Patriot batteries due to be deployed soon along their border.

Foreign Minister Nasser Joudeh told state news agency Petra ambassador Bahjat Suleiman had violated diplomatic protocol.

"The Syrian ambassador has breached all norms and diplomatic practices by his behavior ... This is considered as a final warning to abide by the rules of diplomatic practice and to stop any meetings or statements that are deemed harmful to Jordan,' Joudeh said.

Jordan maintains an embassy in Damascus and has avoided publicly supporting Syrian rebels fighting to overthrow Syria's President Bashar al-Assad, calling instead for a political solution to a war that has cost over 100,000 lives.

Jordanian officials told Reuters they took special offence to posts on social media networks by Suleiman warning that advanced Soviet-designed Alexander missiles could target the kingdom when the U.S. military deploys at least two Patriot missile batteries later this month.

"This was almost like a war threat. This is totally unacceptable," said one senior official.

Jordan and Syria's other neighbors are increasingly nervous the Syrian civil war will spill over its borders and ignite a regional conflict.

Patriots are interceptor weapons designed to shoot down hostile missiles. Jordan wants to guard against any missile attack from Syria and has asked for Washington's help to bolster security. Fierce clashes have erupted in Syria close to the border.

On Thursday Jordan's army said it had foiled an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of arms from Syria into Jordan, without giving details.

Washington said it would be making Patriot batteries and advanced F-16 fighter jets available for annual war games scheduled later this month in the kingdom.

The United States announced last April it was dispatching over 200 army planners to Jordan.

Suleiman accused Jordan of hosting thousands of radical Islamist "terrorists" who were sent to fight Assad's forces and of providing a haven for hundreds of Syrian army defectors, training them to go back and join the rebels.

Jordan has long denied hosting U.S.-led training of Syrian rebels and security sources say they are always on the alert against Islamist radicals seeking to cross the border.

"Any future behavior in this regard by the ambassador will result in taking immediate diplomatic measures according to practiced norms and practices, including considering him 'persona non grata' on Jordanian soil," Joudeh said.

Suleiman drew parallels between Jordan's deployment of Patriots and their deployment in Turkey earlier this year.

"The arrival of the Patriots in Turkey and stationing them on the border was a bad omen for the government of (Turkish Prime Minister) Tayyip Erdogan and we don't wish the same fate for those counting on the Patriots, " Suleiman said, referring to anti-government protests in Turkey.

This was viewed as a threat coming from an accredited ambassador whose post required he did not meddle in the internal affairs of his host country, Jordanian officials said.

This ambassador has ridiculed and insulted Jordanians and their government several times without a response from Jordan.
He called them terrorist supporters, he hinted at bombing Jordan with Alexander missiles and much more. All of that while he was sitting in his office in Amman.
Notice how the Jordanian traitors didn't even threat to cut ties, but just replace him with another ambassador!
Jordan's covert support for the brutal regime in Damascus is understandable given that the rebels are Islamists (Jordan's monarchy worst enemies)mainly the MB.
But what is more surprising is the lack of any self respect their government has. From the beating they took in Iraq's embassy to Syria's ambassador comments.
Jordan is the left overs from Sykes–Picot Agreement. So its an illegitimate entity that needs to be split between post-Assad Syria and KSA. Syria will get Amman to Aqaba, and we get the rest.

It appears to be that Jordan had enough on its plate from now on. They have been trying to isolate themselves as much as possible in order to avoid raising any alarming tension. In addition to that, Jordan has been helping the Syrian people for 2 years and something. It's interesting to know that Al-Zatari is now becoming the 4th largest city in Jordan because of the over flood of refugees. But that's not the whole story, aside from offering a safe place for the Syrian people, Jordan cuts from its own budgets to help those poor Syrians.

It was a good move made by the Jordanian government ,but I suspect that they will be able to take it any longer, at least for me. Assad is a perpetuating mass murderer ,and he ought to be stopped.

It's quite obvious, Jordan and Turkey are the sole responsible for training and providing logistical supplies. @BLACKEAGLE often attaches videos off and on, he can testify on that.

Other than that, I'm positively sure that both of Jordan and Turkey have done a great job assisting the rebels.

That's right, King Abdullah calls for a political solution, because non-political solution would definately lead to one of those scenarios according to him:

1- Partitioning Syria.
2- Prolonged sectarian war that could lead to direct foreign intervention
3- Turning Syria into an Afghanistan or Somal.

So it's not like he likes Alawites, he is being realistic.

Jordan is known of being not talkative, remember Libya, our official spokesperson was constantly denying Jordanian involvement in Libyan war, but aftermath, there were pictures showing 6 Jordanian F-16 taking part in imposing no flying zone over Libya, as well as providing rebels with Iris-4*4, arms, intelligence assistance and humanitarian help.

As for Syria, Bashar himself accused Jordan of arming and training the FSA, and media reports confirmed that. Bashar has no morals and our PM hemself showed that Jordan is worried of using Chemos against civilians and maybe Syrian refugees as a revenge of their role against him and that's why we are getting Patriot missiles.

Also, the cowards have nothing to fear, US & Saudi Arabia will back them fully incase of war.

Well, I assure you that JAF is capable of wiping out Bashar in a matter of few days, but the concern is the propability of using his huge Chemo arsenal that is able to kill hundreds of thousands of Jordanians in few hours.

Jordan has around 50 F16s while Syria has a large fleet of older aircraft, still they will probably get around 20 Mig 29 m2.
Pantsir S1 is effective, JAF does not have the experience USAF has in dealing with air defence.
Beside that comes to costs of war which Jordan cannot take for matters that are not part of self defence.

The thing is that they are mostly fighting urban warfare where their heavy arms are not so usefull, if in war with a country they have a large force of bombers, fighters, tanks, missiles to use.

besides, Jordan might have those good weapons only there is not enough money to use all that stuff, war costs too much.
