Jordan is mulling a significant military intervention in southern Syria
  • The civil war in Syria has reached such a tipping point for one of the most stable and US-friendly regimes in the Middle East.

The Jordanian military is actively implementing plans to create a humanitarian buffer zone in the south of the country, Sam Jones, Roula Khalaf and Erika Solomon report for the Financial Times.

Jordan's military envisions an operation that would set up a humanitarian corridor in the southern Syrian provinces of Deraa and Suwayda.

The Assad regime is currently in nominal control of these provinces. But a coordinated rebel offensive, consisting in large part of fighters from the Al Qaeda affiliate Jabhat al-Nusra, has sparked concern in Jordan that a full-scale Syrian withdrawal from the area could occur, provoking chaos along the border.

Jordan worries that jihadists could establish a permanent foothold along the country's border with Syria, or sue the area for attacks on the country's generally pro-US monarchy.

As the FT reports, Jordanian leaders want to "avoid 'another Idlib'" in the region, a reference to the March withdrawal of the Assad regime from the northern city in the face of a rebel and jihadist offensive.

"Diplomats say Amman and its international allies are keen to avoid 'another Idlib', referring to the Assad regime’s withdrawal from the city in March; jihadis soon took advantage of the retreat and established a strong presence there," according to the report.

More proof of what I''ve been saying all along. The Arab world and neighbors of Syria, and international community absolutely oppose rebel victory and support Assad regime. If rebels create a miracle and bring him down everyone in the world will attack them.

Jordanian rats couldn't even wipe their arse without foreign help. How are those helpless puppies going to take on Asssad's army? Even without tanks and air support, a Syrian Arab is worth about the same as 20 of those Jordanian dogs. Same for the GCC.

Jordan supports Assad's army, this buffer zone is not intended for Assad but is directed against Syrian rebels. Nobody opposes Assad, everyone prefers Assad/Kurds and directly support them. Iran, Jordan, Israel and world are all on same page.

Listen, I know you guys don't have much room to wander about in Palestine, but you must suffer from manic claustrophobia. Iran is just 'on the same page as the Sunni terrorist supporting nations' by sending hundreds of advisers, spending billions of dollars to fight those Islamofascists? All the while Saudi Arabia is exporting it's takfirism and wahabbism, trying to kill every Shia they can find, because they're really 'on the same side'? This is becoming embarrassing.

ZZZZzzzz, bunch of gibberish rhetoric.

Israel says it gives medical aid to secular rebels that number a few hundred. As if I care. Israel, Jordan, Iran, and whole world opposes Idlib victory and Islamist victory in Syria. They all have stated they prefer Assad. Iran and West rarely have any disputes in the region, they're on the same page in Yemen, Iraq, Lebanon and Syria.

. .
Yeah. Soon there is no 'homeland' for you. How about that gibberish? You may all be kicked out into the rubbled areas of Eastern Syria.

You can dream as you wish, we stand our ground. Iran/Arab regimes are biggest obstacle to self determination of people in region. With Iran/Arab regimes intact, there will never come a day where people have a voice and where Israel no longer remains secure. Arab regimes cause harm in their own way, Iran on other hand has deep hatred against Arabs and will do everything to cause problems for them, try taking over lands it believes were ancient Persian. But now both are panicking and calling to the West, Iran is begging West to cooperate with it in Iraq and Syria and dumping billions in credit line to Assad regime whilst Arab regimes are working to reverse trend of Arab spring and pouring billions into intelligence monitoring on their populations. Of course while preparing plans for buffer zones in Syria. Both of you can foresee your fate. And the people foresee it as well, there are good tidings for the people.

By the way, your style of language is very funny. You're desperately trying to sound like articulate Westerner. I can't stop laughing about it. Be yourself and stop being something you aren't.

they're on the same page in Yemen
Since Palestinians are usually famous for their backstabbing, I'm not surprised. But lying is also in your blood it seems, and in a pathetic way.

Iran and west are on the same side in Yemen? How pathetic can someone be to lie like this?

Yes,because U.S totally supports Hezbollah and Iran's help to them, same as Israel. And you are not famous for lying and hiding the truth.

And Yes, we do oppose taking of Idlib by Al-Nusra terrorists, they are not simple 'Islamists', they are terroists, nothing more, nothing less. I don't give a damn who else opposes Al-Nusra, but whoever is, I support their decision.

Okay bubbi. Keep believing that. Two hundred Syrian soldiers in pickup trucks would steamroll Jordan, and I'm not joking either. Now please tell me how Jordan has F-16s. Same for Houthis and Saudi Arabia.

What's with the weeping? We've been doing our job, we stepped up our support only when your great leader Sulaimani was going to take over Daraa and Qunaitera.. In short, no hope for your brothers in Southern Syria, forget it.

Although I agree with the first part, I partially agree with the rest. The west was forced to support Saudi led coalition against Huthis, before that they had never had any problem with Huthis taking over Yemen, all they had done was pulling out their forces and citizens. American and West reaction on Huthis expansion in Yemen shocked us, yet KSA took the initiative by itself without counseling anybody.

The international support for the Saudi led operation aftermath shows Saudi political clout.

This is Falcon's world view:

All countries are evil and they are all best friends. Israel, Iran, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, USA, Argentine, Brunei, everyone. And they have only one goal in mind.

To keep the brave Sunni Arab down. That's everyone's goal. When Khamenei drinks tea with Netanyahu, King Salman, and Bill Gates, they discuss the different ways to not let Sunni Arab be successful.

Now the only heroes that can save the day are Sunni Arab Rebels that get their funding and weapons from...nowhere. They magically appear and they fight bravely, even though ALL state leaders are against them.

But victory is at hand...

I m concerned about Syria and concerned at the same time.

I have been reading about Syria but I have not been able to create a clear picture who is winning in Syria. Is it Assad or rebels? The western media, which has most information but is biased against Assad regime paints a picture of chaos and bias but still is not clear enough who has the upper hand.

Those who oppose Assad, do they understand no matter how hated Assad is, the alternative that seems immediate and impending is worse than him? If we understand this and realize what happened to Syria's neighborhood and what is being done to Syria, then standing alongside Assad regime and supporting it is the way forward. Else the Syria state will dismember and no matter how much I hate Assad ( I m neutral on this sentiment, its the people of Syria who must decide) I dont want to see this result.

In all this, suffering on brought on Syrians is unwarranted and very painful.
