It benefits them to see sovereign nations remain suspicious of each other so they can continue to gain local influence with less resistance. It goes without saying that Afghanistan and Pakistan should maintain positive and productive channels of communication for the betterment of the region. Terrorist organizations must not be allowed to work against our shared peace objective, and risk the safety of the land and people.

It was widely reported that Daesh launched its first coordinated attacks on police checkpoints in an eastern Afghan province. Ali Khan you shouldnot be asking questions which are above your pay grade. When Afghanistan are not serious themselves, Their deep state actors are not sincere in negotiating with Afghan taliban and derailed the whole peace process by leaking news of Mullah umar death. What kind of Joint co-operation do you want to see? Has ANA start operation in Kunar/Nuristan where Haqqani taliban take refuge ? IIRC even your american forces abandoned kunar

It takes two to tango. We wanted it to work despite NDS backstabbing us at every movement. But if they want to be left alone just like Your american forces left them alone in their Bacha Baazi activities, then so be it.

It goes with out saying that we place very high emphasis on mutual cooperation between the two countries. However tangible results can not be achieved by only wishing them. It is important to scrutinise role of each regional and international player and figure out 'who' is forwarding her own agenda at the expense of innocent people suffering from terrorism on either side of the Pak-Afghan border. When there are elements who see cooperation between Afghanistan and Pakistan as their regional loss, lasting peace will remain elusive. It is high time that such notions are curbed by bringing to bear diplomatic and economic influence on nations which continue to promote suspicions between two neighbours. As such, this has been the greatest obstacle to a joint fight against terorrists in this region and US has consistently shied away from tackling this obstruction. Rise of ISIL, recent advances of Taliban coupled with miserable performance of both ANA and government officials will continue to drag US back into this region for all the wrong reasons. Continued misery of Afghan people along with fleeing educated class from Afghanistan can put the very existence of democracy in peril here in Afghanistan. This will create a mess we would have hard time dealing for a very long time. It is time to exert some pressure. Window of action is closing fast and people of Pakistan are loosing their patience faster.

US and NATO combined militaries [the greatest in the world] couldn't defeat the Taliban and AL-Qaeda in 14 years, [and quit in 2014], and left the [US armed and trained] 3rd world military with no air power whatsoever, [alone], to fight the Taliban, AL-Qaeda and now the ISIL terrorists? .. I like this about the fall of the Afghan city.

Kabul-based political analyst Haroun Mir said this is not the first time the Taliban has assaulted the northern city during the current fighting season. The provincial governor leave Kunduz for sightseeing outside of Afghanistan

Afghan security forces have been sorely tested this year, following the withdrawal at the end of 2014 of international combat troops. Army and police have suffered huge casualties and their resources have been spread thinly across the country as the Taliban have taken their fight to topple the Kabul government to every corner of the country.

There is no doubt that we are going through a crucial phase in the region. The terrorists remain focused on destabilizing the region with their acts of terror. The governments from both sides are working hard to counter the growing threat of terrorism, and it is in the best interests of both nations to combine their strength against common enemies. We are not dismissing any of the challenges that exist; we are simply emphasizing the importance of shared cooperation in regards to the shared peace objectives.

Moreover, it is becoming evident that Daesh is in the process of establishing its foothold in the region. As mentioned above, Daesh launched its first coordinated attacks on police checkpoints in an eastern Afghan province. The growing threat of terrorism along with the emergence of Daesh makes it the need of the hour to build on the recent efforts to improve cooperation and coordination.

A high level Afghan delegation visited Pakistan last month, and it was also reported that after the meetings Pakistan and Afghanistan agreed to formulate joint strategy over security challenges. You can read the news article below:

The latest update is that Afghan forces have retaken control of Kunduz on Thursday. This is what the Spokesperson to the Afghan Ministry of Interior Affairs tweeted few hours ago:

"AFG Special Security Forces now controls Kunduz City, it is retaken and being cleared from terrorists, heavy causality to the enemy"

Furthermore, Deputy Interior Minister Ayoub Salangi said the city had been recaptured after a "special operation" overnight.
