Featured Joe Biden seeks restoration of peoples' rights in Kashmir; disappointed with CAA, NRC

LOL whether Trump, Biden or Obama bin Laden ran for US presidency, they would all lick Indian boots. We are under no illusion.

We are keeping the Americans at an arms length. Our true ally is China.

Well, the Establishment or shadow government has made it clear in the Bush Era that India is an economic threat to the United States and it is actually a bigger threat than China. So now you see during the Trump Era that America is ready to fight China with every last Indian. There are people in the west that push for a nuclear war between India and Pakistan. They want to drastically reduce the population on earth and want to use India as a sacrificial lamb.

Indian Americans have to show they are too loyal to their homeland to be successful in American politics. How do they do that? Criticizing India. The Indian politicians talking on radio here are pure shitshow. On some levels it was cringing. Not the criticism. But the level of empathy they try to play to get votes here.
A white would be more friendly to India than an Indian American. Except for Nikki Haley rest are all not too pro Indians.

You're an American?

No India has Kamala Devi Harris the expected running mate of Biden. Her previous statements on India are very pro India. She is half Indian and half American African. If Biden got elected and she becomes VP then she will be running the policy on India.
So watch out what you ask for.
Absolutely right.

Please just ignore ALL American posturing on Kashmir. They may say a few choice sound bites here and there to fool us, but they have zero intention of aiding Kashmiri interests against Delhi.

Biden is is a troll essentially.

You're an American?

Nope. Indian. But I follow both Canadian and American politics, especially Indian origin ones.

He is definitely right about CAA. I have been surprised at the lack of censure - the Act itself seems Unconstitutional. A law can apply to ALL persecuted minorities, not a specific set.

On Kashmir, as far as they have the right to Internet and right to protest peacefully, that's all that matters. Article 370 and UT status have nothing to do with anyone outside India.

Tell me one country that the United States have an free visa policy with other than White majority countries? The citizens of the White majority countries can visit and work in US with minimal paperwork. Japan and Singapore being outliers have visa free entry. And that's it. Not a single African country for reasons we all know. Even their immigration law doesn't treat everyone equally, if you know about their Green card or citizenship process. If I am from a country where there are less application, then I get it in a year. Others some decades. We don't call it discrimination cos it's their law.

I am not going to get into whether CAA is discrimination. That's for Indian SC to decide. As for Kashmir no one is asking people not to protest, just asking people not to indulge in violence.

Ok, That's interesting. Indians in America are actually very loyal to India because a lot of them are born outside of America. They came here looking for work opportunities through work visas and have a strong community that supports the BJP. That's why I asked if you lived in the United States. I would be interested in which radio channels you were listening to that are anti-Indian. I've come across the opposite.

You're wrong again. You cannot.. Again cannot work in the united states without proper work documentation. You can only work if you work off the books. There are countries that the United States has agreements with and you can visit those countries without Visas but they cannot work here and you cant work there. Don't spread misinformation because you have no idea what you are talking about.

Lastly, the US is a migrant-friendly country and has immigration quotas for most countries. It also provides work visas for people across the world. Certain people are not allowed in the United States because they break immigration laws. It has nothing to do with racism or discrimination. If you are from a poor country and visit the US, you are more likely to break the immigration laws for work opportunities but it has nothing to do with color.
America is not a banana republic like India so do not spew bs here, please.

South Korea. It's actually based on the number of citizens who enter AND leave the country.

Yes few countries have Free Visa policy with USA and it works both ways like American don't need any Visa to enter those countries either. But that didn't give them the right to work in USA without a work permit. I know Brits Canadian and European citizens who got deported because they were found working without a work permit.

Democratic presidential nominee and former US vice president Joe Biden wants India to take necessary steps to restore the rights of Kashmiris, and has expressed disappointment over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and the implementation of the NRC in Assam.

According to a policy paper -- Joe Biden's agenda for Muslim American community' -- posted recently on his campaign website, these measures (the CAA and the National Register of Citizens) are inconsistent with the country's long tradition of secularism and with sustaining a multi-ethnic and multi-religious democracy .

A group of Hindu Americans has reached out to the Biden campaign expressing resentment to the language used against India and urged it to reconsider the views. The group has also sought a similar policy paper on Hindu Americans. The Biden campaign did not respond to questions.

Observing that Biden understands the pain Muslim-Americans feel towards what is happening in Muslim-majority countries and countries with significant Muslim populations, the policy paper clubbed together Kashmir and Assam in India with the forced detention of over a million Uyghur Muslims in western China, and discrimination and atrocities against Myanmar's Rohingya Muslim minority.

In Kashmir, the Indian government should take all necessary steps to restore rights of all the people of Kashmir. Restrictions on dissent, such as preventing peaceful protests or shutting or slowing down the internet, weakens democracy.

Joe Biden has been disappointed by the measures that the government of India has taken with the implementation and aftermath of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam and the passage of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act into law, the policy paper said.

India abrogated the special status of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 of the Constitution on August 5 last year and bifurcated it into two Union territories -- Ladakh, and Jammu and Kashmir.

India has defended its move, saying the special status provisions only gave rise to terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. It has asserted that the abrogation of Article 370 is its "internal matter".

The Indian government maintains that the CAA, which was passed by Parliament, is an internal matter of the country and stressed that the goal is to protect the oppressed minorities of neighbouring countries.

According to the CAA, members of the Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian communities who have come from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan till December 31, 2014 following religious persecution there will get Indian citizenship.

India has said that the updation of the NRC in Assam is an "entirely internal" process carried out at the direction and under the supervision of the Supreme Court.

Reacting to the policy paper, Biden supporter Ajay Jain Bhutoria told PTI that Biden as the US Senator for decades and as the vice president under previous president Barack Obama for eight years has been known as one of the best friends of India and Indian-Americans.

He played a key role in the passage of the India-US civil nuclear deal and as vice president, he advocated increasing the bilateral trade to USD 500 billion per annum, he said, adding that Biden regularly hosted Diwali at his vice-presidential residence and is well-connected with the Indian-Americans.

Biden understands the issues impacting India, issues of cross border terrorism, influx of terrorism across borders in Kashmir, issue of Hindu minorities sufferings in Kashmir, issues in the Indo Pacific region with China, and the rising role of India as stronger US ally in all areas including economic growth, counter-terrorism, fight for human rights, climate change and global security.

There are groups within various elected officials groups in the US pushing language and agenda's highlighting misinformation and damaging facts on how India handled its own internal matter on Kashmir, Ladakh or immigration reforms related to NRC, said Bhutoria, who is also on the National Finance Committee for Biden.

He said that the US recently updated its immigration policy to block the H-1B and other visas for the rest of the year to safeguard its own workers, which is completely questionable and will hurt the economy.

India too has a right to define its own immigration policy to support its population and economy. I grew up in Assam, Guwahati and I have seen the influx of people across the border and taking away important jobs, resources from local people in northeastern states.

The immigration reforms and NRC are welcome steps. Execution of these reforms and strategies need to be improved and India needs to do better in change management and rolling out of reforms, Bhutoria added.

Rishi Bhutada, board member, Hindu American Political Action Committee, said the Biden campaign is missing the much needed context about Pakistan-sponsored cross border terrorism in regards to Kashmir".

It is also missing how the CAA is a good-faith effort to remedy the status of approximately 30,000 persecuted religious minorities from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan who sought refuge in India, have no other path to citizenship, and no chance of returning to their home countries safely, Bhutada said.

P.S . this is Indian website and Indian perspective.

Just to appease muslim voters, nothing else, it would be opposite once in power.

.
It's an election year and Biden will say anything to get the votes of every demographic, religion and gender. One day he will support Muslim next day Hindus next day Jews next day black or Latino or White. He need each vote to defeat Trump especially in these states who actually decide the election. FL, WI, OH, PA and MI. These are tossed up states. Once elected he will support so called biggest democracy in the world and won't even know who are Kashmiri.

The US immigration laws are based on nationalities (which is basically discriminatory based on nationality then) but not based on Religion - the CAA+NRC is looking at religion of people and only singling out Muslims. If a law states that illegals from Bangladesh shall not be allowed, that may be acceptable. But if it says only illegal Muslims won’t be allowed and rest can get rights, then your issue is not with Illegal immigrants but only with Illegal Muslims (i.e discriminatory based on religion). Imagine if US law said that Hindus from India shall not be granted visas? But Sikhs, Christians etc. can?

You are right about Indian supreme court, for Indians it can surely decide what ever it wants by declaring Muslims as less equal humans. Joe Biden and rest of the world is not obligatory to follow Indian supreme court and is entitled to formulate its own policies. And then in the end Indian muslims can also decide what political discourse they want to take as well, they can either accept their status as second class citizens or do something else about it.

not really . Her being black will know all about oppression and suffering by the state
Hence : democrat

they know all about the suffering having been second class citizens throughout their life just like Kashmiris .

The black community has whole hearted taken to her and her policies are in line with the views of the black Muslims in America
don’t forget the black Muslim vote carries a lot of power in the black communities vote during election time .

Black lives matter is bringing a lot of the real history now to the minds of young influential Americans .
