F-18 and F-35 are not built for air superiority. Chinese navy's J-11BH fighter jets which are way bigger are sufficient air cover for JH-7.

Wasn't there someone on this Forum called Khafee who had spread rumors of PAF/PN already having JH-7? And also F-16s, and J-16 and what not.

Irrespective, PN needs a DEDICATED AIR FORCE armed with JH-7 URGENTLY !

Multi role fighters don't do as well in air to air compared to air superiority / fleet air defense fighters. F-18 is weaker than F-14 and F-15 in terms of air to air.

There have been a grudge when F-14 was retired. USN pilots loved F-14 for its strong air to air capability. F-18 don't have F-14's strong air to air capability. Chinese uses J-20 for air to air only. Air superiority fighters are alive and well. Only smaller planes like J-10 and F-35 are multi role.
 
SAMs aren't accurate at very long ranges. At most 100 to 200 km. Plus they can be jammed by EW planes like Chinese navy's Y-8 EW variant.

I dont how capable is Y-8 but it looks beautiful.

Why PAF does not consider JH-7? Is it because its twin engined? It looks like a capable ground attack aircraft and can be a good replacement for Mirage.

JH-7 is a big plane. FB-111 sized. It is expensive to service. Pakistan uses small planes.

Single mission jets are always expensive to operate as compare to multirole jets, How do you know F-18 pilots are not enjoying F-18 has better avionic, does F-14 has better avionics than F-18, F-18 have AESA, Does F-14 had AESA, agility/maneuverability for both jets are same, thrust to weight ratio/lift to drag ratio is almost same (F-14 had a slight advantage), only top speed are not same for both jets but its not important because in war accelerations are matters not top speed

F-14D of the 1980s was superior to F-18C of the 1980s in air to air. F-14 with AESA is better than F-18 with AESA. Bigger radar means better radar range and better BVR.

 
Great for the late 1970s and upgraded to maybe the late 2020s at best. But like the tornado a design that is no longer suitable for tomorrow’s battlefield.
Tornado are notorious to maintain due to the complicated swing wings. JH-7 fixed sweep wings give good low speed handling while without the high maintenance geometry variable wings.

Couple with modern avionics , running on turbofan, large fuselage , a lot of space for further upgrade, long range and high payload. It is essential for current warfare and will serve it's purpose well.
JH-7A is no bigger than J-16. They are about the similar size.

When F-14 were operational F-18 jobs were to complement F-14, F-14 is looking for Russian/Soviet anti ship missiles carriers at long range whereas F-18C is looking Soviet fighter jets

and F-14 was very maintenance prone jet because of variable geometry wing design as well as variable intake design, and USN rarely upgrades F-14 and F-14 reached its airframe age limit 40 year in 2006 that why USN retired F-14
Past is past. Now is now. Don't compare apples with oranges.
We have the capability to maintain large and twin engine jets, we recently retired F-6, that's my point
