1). Klimov poster only says the thrust range.. That means engine can be upgraded to 98 KN without changing its engine core (advanced metallurgy is the key)..That doesn't mean jf17 current engines are 98KN..
You can visit Klimov website.. It clearly says now the RD33 family consists of 8000-9000kgf engines .. Also that high thrust 9000 kgf (88 KN) RD33 family engine is most latest improved version RD33MK used in mig 35[can be upgraded to 98KN].. The russians really boasting of the 7% thrust increase in RD33MK, which is done by the use of cooled blades made of latest tech modern materials including composites..
China has no authority to upgrade RD33 engine.. But can repair, overhaul it.. So they can overclock the engine to a higher thrust (may be upto 94-95 KN) but in an expense of other performance especially its service life..
2).Russians offered improved engine clearly means proposed RD33MA is better than current RD93.. Value for money (values added by the money spending) or cost may be the reason..
3). PAF have no more options ( money and suppliers).. So they are satisfied..
4). How can an aircraft tested 200% stress using an engine?? Generally done as follows..

During stress tests, parts of the airplane are pushed, pulled, and twisted by hydraulic jacks. This series of tests called “destruct sequences.”
The tests were incremental. First, they put to “limit load.” This is a test that simulates the most extreme conditions expected in the life of the airplane..
These test tests positive and negetive maneuverability, emergency landing, extreme maneuvers, engine out response etc..

plz cut this nonsense ..... do you really think your post deserve a serious reply ....

This has been a good week of news

The recent JF-17 article in Combat Aircraft Magazine brings nothing new, just answers to lots of questions that required 'official' response. Such claims of RD93 98kn thrust, improved wingloading, better radar (V2), BVR / data bus improvement were earlier made by PAF personnel both in media and in formal discussions with potential customers. Now same info is shared with a Dutch aviation writer (along with ride in F-16B for photos) to solve this puzzle.

Regarding JF-17 development program, PAC management has lots of challenges since the start of this project, thanks to their and Thunder project team this has been a success so far. The challenges are quite clear; meet original order for PAF, ensure quality parameters, safety and testing of each deliverable.

PAF is requesting F-7s replacement as per schedule, local weapons/pods and Chinese origin weapons testing/integration requires completion whereas no dedicated JF-17 test pilots and aircraft are available (2 aircraft are test beds for Block-II, 2 I believe are in China for testing). Sparing pilots and aircraft from 16sqn (Kamra) for necessary deliverables put additional burden on the unit as well.

Its good thing that PAC and CATIC both refrain to share progress on each and every milestone; as 'little bumps' would be magnified in media reports (by potential rivals). Its clear that if CATIC and PAC are displaying CM400AKG in Zhuhai & Dubai Airshows and C802+SD10 on Block-II test bed (during ceremony) that means these are the committed weapons / options MUST to be delivered.

The only one thing that is required now for smooth operations is timely availability of finances and political stability in Pakistan.

So it is now 100% confirmed of the Rd-93 having 98Kn thrust?

thats a hell of a news i must say,No wonder why they didnt wanted to change it

AFAIK Farmer, Fishbed, Foxbat, Fulcrum, etc. (any name starting with letter "F") are NATO names to identify Soviet block "Fighter" planes. "B" for bombers like "Bear" and "H" for helo's like "Hind" . Nato name "Farmer" had nothing to do with maintenance by Farmers

I agree (@MastanKhan ) that 10 to 20% sounds big but I do have to explain a little bit. The Russian engines were never meant to be sophisticated. Previous designs were made to fly a few hundred hours (Mig19) and then throw away. A mig19 was called a Farmer cause it was meant to be maintained by a farmer... This design philosophy is typical Russian. Rugged but expendable and simple. Now that design can be altered a lot more then the 10%. You can do a lot of new materials. You can add a lot more electronics. Just move away from the dirty fuel. So the 20% is do-able.

Russia is already done with the 20%. China did probably the same and just incorporated the parts.

Atleast those products are produced and used by many in big numbers. I do not say Pakistan developed these all alone... But Indians tend to think they do. Which is clearly not the reality.

Since the Indians have placed more orders for their LCA than you have for JF17, you need not worry about our commitment to it. You only need to worry about your own product, which has failed to impress everybody but the PAF.

Please visit LCA thread to find out what is happenign with your magnificent fighter.

We are not worried aboout our product we are flying it and already more than 50 fighters have been produced.

So by that logic, the Tu-104 Camel was designed to be maintained by camels? :D (Forget about An-22 Cock then! )

(The NATO naming convention was based on the type of aircraft: Names beginning with F for fighter, C for Cargo, B for Bomber and so on: NATO reporting name - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia )

@Capt.Popeye : Are you making fun of me? I did not say use the Wright brothers engine to produce a PW220... I am not going to arrogant but you do sound not that wise to me. 9000 posts. 10.000 thanks. Elite member... I am impressed but not by those numbers but by your logic.

Nope. you are still as amusing as you were earlier. Thanks for obliging......................with such an imaginatively amusing explanation...........as the earlier one for the "Farmer" moniker for the MiG.
Now; pray do tell us where the "Faggot" name for another SU war-plane came from? :D

Dear sir,
Mig 19's Farmer designation is nato designation, and has no whatsoever bearing on the logic you presented.... all fighters from western bloc had F designation(fishbed, flanker, frogfoot), all bombers had start with B (Bear, beagle, bat etc) , Helos with H (Hind, hip, ), Commercial a/c with C, A2A missiles with A(Atoll. alamo, adder), S2A missiles with G (gadfly, gecko, grizly), Air to Surface with K (Krypton, kayak, kingbolt) etc

It's russian nick name was Utkanos which means Duck nose.

no.of hardpoints remain same but each point can bear more load attached with. Make sense when you are going to attach ALCM or stand-off missiles and bombs with it
or the multiple launch rail that can carry 2 SD-10 on one hard point.
However if they can add another hard point under belly somewhere behind cockpit that will be idea as then that can carry targeting POD or any supporting equipment and leave the original 7 hard points for missiles and fuel tanks/bombs!

A chin hardpoint/store for pods opposite the cannon would make good sense.
