JF - 17 possible controversy.

JF-17 is not inducted becos it really do not fit the doctrine of PLAAF and PLANAF. China is the third largest country in the world. It has vast land which needed longer legged fighter to cover more and further.

Recent official CCTV documentary regarding top achievement of PLA weaponisation program mention J-10 has twin large delta wings which can house plenty of fuel which increase its range over J-7 significantly. Which is why PLAAF emphasize on J-10. While its range is still inferior to J-11 and JH-7, it is still a big improvement.

JF-17 is a decent fighter. But its shorter legged range than J-10 is the factor PLAAF decide not to induct it. Nothing to do with its fighting capabilities.

my answer is Jf 17 is designed for Pakistan not for china ...Chine don't need jf when they already have many aircraft projects going on...As china is seeing US air force as a competitor...

Not neccessary totally for PAF. It is as an export fighter jet to have leverage with allies countries who are in need of modernisation their AF. Just like F-5E of USA.

While at the same time, MAKE MONEY. Sell product to make money.

the only reason china is not going for this aircraft is because its a light weight fighter, china is looking for medium to heavy fighters. J-20 is already in town and so why would chinese hurdle their selves with a fighter thats gonna cost them moneyy which could be spend on the newer j-20!

another thing jf-17 was exactly made for PAF......
china wanted to replace its old j-6 j-7 aircraft so they went for a joint venture with a US company (northrop grumman i believe), but the project was canceled after some strain in relationship of both countries. lucky enough for CAC pakistan got sanction by US and so pak showed interest in this jet and signed the deal to jointly produce this aircraft.

i also believe that when the project was canceled with Northrop, china went for indeginous project, j-10! and that could also be one of the reason why china didn't opt jf-17 as they had j-10!

Here is what I posted on another thread newbies read this regarding what is significance of JF-17/FC-1 and its mass scale production in coming years.

(was to an xyz member) a tip of info for you please take your time to read it before playing down on JFT orders.

In the late 70s when China started manufacturing F-7/J-7 variants many 3rd world nations showed interest and went with the purchase through late 70's-up till 2000s. At that time China had no experience in a show down aviation marketing yet it managed to sell J-7/F-7s to 17 Nations including China.

Up till now 1200-1250 J-7/F-7 variants have been sold.

All of these nations would want something to upgrade its Air Force to latest standards and Capabilities.
If not 17 most of them would want to go with JFT, give it a time, aircrafts are getting expensive.

Those 17 nations having F-7s would have only logical choice to go and upgrade to a giant leap technological capabilities that JFT is offering keeping in view over F-7/J-7 with less cash and non sanction platform because the world knows F-16 sanction saga who would want to go for that again. Russians have lost when it comes to Price Tag and easy maintenance and less strain on pockets.

Please know that, It is yet to be decided by PLAAF which one would go int limited service FC-1/L-15, with FC-1/JF-17 has already gone thought many weapons system test and other operational requirements while L-15 has not. This makes FC-1 in leading position.
