This time of year, weather is unpredictable. Once watching full dress rehersals, we got caught in hailstones, had to use the plastic chairs we were sitting on to protect ourselves.

Do you know what else is happening due to the parade with the fly past? The background skills?

For the folks on the ground its jet’s screaming over - for the PAF flights - its timed take off from their various bases, JF-17s fly in from their base, J-10s from their, F-16s and Mirages from their base , some staged at another base and so on. Each has a specific time on target and has to maintain a sequence and keep safety into account while sharing a tight airspace with so many aircraft.

You know where else this happened ? 27/2/19 - Swift retort ..

The fly past has a public function but it is also an example of real world large package coordination and execution to get the exact time on target.

So not all of it is actually wasted.

It's actually a time on target exercise for the navy or USAF or marines.

I was reading an article the other day, about Finland I belive but not sure (it was a European country), that banned flybys on such occassions citing pollution and greenhouse emissions etc.

A former air force guy commented below that this was just another time on target exercise and an excuse to complete flying hours for the pilots. Now if they aren't doing it above a stadium, they would still do it but now in some far off place. But the same fuel will be used and same emissions will be emitted, because you have to get your hours in.

It has been revealed a while back that some of the Chinese jets paraded over Tiananmen in 2019 participated in aerial combat maneuvers after exiting the area.
