He is as real as Bhudda or any other prophet. Be honest, do you think some guys in a hut sat around 2000 years ago and said, "Let's make someone up, no one will know and we will claim he was big in these parts 30 years ago. Who will check?" As with anyone born that long ago details are sketchy...even in Rome where they kept good records details of the period are hard to come by. And as far as his life? He was a religous figure, exaggeration is par for the course.

1700 years ago they sure did something quite similar. Google up Council of Nicaea convened by Emperor Constantine.

A Jewish Sect and Roman religion were literally merged on the orders of Emperor Constantine and are the foundations of what Christianity is today. Jesus may still be real, but there's 1700 years of powerful editorializing of who he is.

Its just quite telling that there is evidence of Julius Caesar's existence who was Before Christ, but not of Jesus. Of course faith demands belief, not fact.
