Jatiya Party chief HM Ershad dies

.
Who's the guy in the military garb bhai?

He worked relentlessly (as much as govt. could do) to place the economy in the right footing. The other thing was that he re-organized and tried (operative word) to bring innovation to administration by de-centralizing govt. (gave birth to Upazilla system instead of Mahakuma system). He will be remembered for those.

Eventually we should also credit him for coming to power in a bloodless coup and also stepping down in a bloodless manner. This is what strong people do. He saw the future and decided to do the right thing.

I know a lot of folks have strong personal opinions about the guy. However the job of a chief civilian administrator (or CMLA even) is to ensure stability and maintain the course for the economy. As far as I know Ershad did a pretty good job on those counts and was beyond reproach.

I know socially and in his personal life he was unorthodox. But that is not how he SHOULD be judged as we are doing here.

The picture is from wikimedia commons shared by the US combined military media services. Caption says, "President Hussain Mohammad Ershad of Bangladesh arrives for a state visit" and is dated 15 December, 1983. Visit was presumably to Washington and the gentlemen in uniform is someone from the Pentagon.

RIP :(. A Great Man from BD. I'll always hold Men ruled regimes from BD above anything else. SM, Zia, Ershad and Fakhruddin/Moeenuddin; all of them were great. Its not in me to place women over men. Women leadership, at best I can hold them as mother, sister, daughter etc. But real boss is always Men. In my lifetime I desire to see a proper Govt run by Men, capable to clamp down on crime and corruption. In BD, western style democracy isnt possible ever as whole bunch of people arent that enlightened. Whatever enlightened people in the country, they get devided in many parties, inside and outside the party they install different kinds of autocracies. Either way its autocracy and different party politics mean, many low level autocracies than a proper autocracy. Ershad's autocracy was better one compared to present one or any other democarzy autocracies (Less corruption, Less crime and Less oppression on people). When responsible autocracies were in power (SM, Zia, Ershad, Fakhruddin/Moeenddin) they should have ensured a better system comprised of worthy people (BAKSAL was great, but not with worthy people). As its not the case we have to deal with a low level autocracy for time being, until the realization occurs. And I dont believe RAW's desire in BD and BD peoples' desires are mutually exclusive. For example how raw united all parties of BD against Ershad. And fifth columnist BD media has dislikings for men run regimes, so they spout venom against any potential ones and install women over any and all important institutions. May Men prowess prevail in BD :victory1:

I kind of agree with you. It's been too long we have been under female rule. The current weakness of foreign policy and the military capabilities in shambles in my opinion is the direct consequence of female rule. We need a leader with a pair of balls, literally.
