Japan’s Fugaku supercomputer now most powerful in the world in new Top 500 list

A decade ago China barely made the list. Now we take up about half of it. Good luck in the next decade. You're going to need it.

Congrats to Japan with no. 1 supercomputer.
Congrats to China with most supercomputers in top 200 (76)
Congrats to China with most supercomputers in top 500 (228)

The Asian century is solidifying itself into an unstoppable reality, I wonder what role (if any) whites will have in it.

They could have secret ones. But with the trade war nobody will ever know.

That's another cute one :-)

A majority of Chinese supercomputers are from Internet service providers. If the US took the same approach as China, it would dominate the entire list. And the majority of Chinese supercomputer use Intel processors.

Exactly, I was going to say the same thing. Other countries like Japan and the US have no need to use super computers to manage A massive firewall and moniter online activity by 100s of millions of people to such a data intensive extent that the CCP requires.

What the fuss? China has three exa-scale supercomputer which are at least 10x faster than this little Japanese one, the first one is around this year.

So from now to the end of 2020 is pretty much only window that anyone, other than China, can take a top spot in this world Top500 list, congrats for japan to cash in during this short time window anyway.

Yep, real cute looking for TOP500. How much do you want to bet we will have more than everybody else combined in the next decade?

"While fastest supercomputer rankings normally bounce between American- and Chinese-made systems, this is Japan’s first system to rank first on the Top500 in nine years since Fugaku’s predecessor, Riken’s K computer. Overall there are 226 Chinese supercomputers on the list, 114 from America, and 30 from Japan. US-based systems contribute the most aggregate performance with 644 petaflops."

China stopped reporting a year ago to avoid triggering the US from what I’ve read.

It's a publicity stunt for Japan. China (and US) should let Japan have #1 supercomputer right up until Tokyo Olympics. They need all the help they can get to promote their country to the world... Then come out with those exascales and utterly destroy the rankings after that!

. .
Stop arguing. Congratulations to Japan. Good achievement. Supercomputers are dominated by these three giants, USA China and Japan. The race is for exascale computers which Americans and Chinese are both introducing very soon, Chinese aimed for this year. Add oil!

More impressive will be photon based circuits and quantum computing which only China and USA are making real progress with.
