Japanese and Philippine Navies conduct maritime patrol in SCS

It can as the refurbished Hamilton ship (Del Pilar-class frigate) can go up to 29 knots while the Hatakaze-class destroyer can go up to 30 knots
You still need to buy new ships, you have lost the Huangyan Island.

I'm glad that Philippines has these two ships! And seeing how our two navies shoulder to shoulder is inspiring.

60 years ago our nation's were at war. Now we are partners in regional security. Long may it always be so.

Almost 70 years actually.

Hatakaze still not using phased array Radar? What kind of radar that square thing on the top of the ship? 3D radar thing like in 054A?

Ships of the Hatakaze Guided Missile Destroyer Class have a comprehensive sensor suite:

  • AN/SPS-52C Air Search Radar
  • OPS-11C Air Search Radar
  • OPS-28B Surface Search Radar
  • MFCS Mk74 Fir Control Radar
  • AN/SPG-51D Missile Fire Control Radar
  • OQS-4 hull sonar
  • OQR-1 TACTASS

In addition to sensor suites, it has a robust defense capabilities:

There should be a platform to encourage Japan to sell Hatakaze Class Guided Missile Destroyer to the Philippines. If the Philippines were to acquire 2 or 3 of these babies, she would have one of the strongest surface navies in ASEAN.

Or perhaps, if she were interested in newer models, we have the new Akizuki Class Guided Missile Destroyer

I'm curious, Hatakaze seems has more ASROC than... let say Standard Missile. Although I don't understand how MK-13 launcher work, but I doubt it can take many missiles at once. So, Hatakaze is an anti sub destroyer? But, even so, why she doesn't has a hangar for an ASW Helo? Instead, Hatakaze put 2 guns on her hull. Plus, what is the purpose of having 2 air search radar? Are they for the CIWS only?

We have installed a comprehensive sensors suite on this Class , allowing complete visage. As to the nature of this Ship Class, it was designed to be a light destroyer, with complete anti air, anti ship, and anti submarine capabilities. Ships of this class are designed as mid-tier maritime defense roles. These are prowling around the core maritime boundaries of Japan.

There are other ship classes that are designed as submarine hunters such as the Shirane Class Guided Missile Destroyer.

Shirane Class GMD

@Nihonjin : How can you sell 3 Hatakaze Class ships if you have only 2? Or you want to build a new Hatakaze for them?
Also, there are a great deal of difference between the word "interest" and "buying". for example, I personally "interest" Hatakaze Class ship, and want it to be my personal ship. But, I won't buy it as I don't have money to do it :P

But, I agree with you, It will boost PH naval capability if they buy 2 Hatakaze, Although I doubt they suddenly become one of the strongest navy in ASEAN.

You're right, we have 2 of these on active status. Considering that these ships are probably going to be retired soon, we should sell them to partners that need the naval fire power and whom we can rely on as strategic partners , long term.

Hatakaze Class ships' roles will be replaced with the Kongo Class Ships, and also the Atago Class.

They just like water and oil. Hard to cooperate with each other. I will surprise if China sell her 054A Frigate and Pinoy buy it.

@Brainsucker ,

So what about Indonesia's naval acquisitions? Any plans on getting destroyers?

That's what I can't say / promise. We are definitely interest with a 4000 tonnes light destroyer / frigate. She will boost our naval capability surely. the problem is our tight military spending budget. Plus, we just bought 3 shiny British Nahkoda Ragam Class Light Frigates and produce our own patrol ships (40 - 60 meter warship. We call them KCR40 and KCR60 - Kapal Cepat Rudal 40 - Fast Missile Boat 40 meters). Dunno if the Government still has extra money to spend and buy Hatakaze for our Navy. Well, I said shiny british ship means, shiny lol.
