***** Japan Threatens to Stop Funding UNESCO *****

.
No it is just very poor taste, and reflects a lack of ethical and moral consideration. Period.

Sadly, the PDF China Platoon's poor taste in comments about other countries' natural disasters are tame compared to the others post in the comment sections of online news articles, where the nastiest of the comments can be seen and read.

And my post was deleted. I insulted no one personally, no country, no nationality. But to protect Chinese sensitivity...

Because no one should "hurt the Chinese people's feelings."

.
I would like to know why this post got deleted...

There is nothing insulting towards anyone, any country, or any nationality in particular. Neither is it off topic because it is directly related to a country's response to a perceived national slight. Japan is called 'childish' and urged to get off the national stage by the immature who did not bothered to do basic research into the subject and they are protected. And a comment that revealed the details of the subject and posed a hypothetical question is deleted.

Nanjing massacre happened in China.
Undoubtedly the event and document of that event is significant in world history.
Therefore China submit the relevant documentation to preserve for humanity.
Japan is called "childish" would most likely because it try to exclude a well-known significant event in history.
This act of defiant is obviously a futile act. And yet it keep insisting on it. Hence childish.

UNESCO rules allows anyone to submit a subject for preservation and teaching. So if the Tibetan exile government submit the issue of China-Tibet to UNESCO, what would China's reaction be ? Possibly equally 'childish' like Japan ?

I am going to take a screenshot of this post because most likely it will be deleted to protect you guys from answering tough questions. :enjoy:

Since the rule allow anyone, then anyone could submit as the rule say. I do not think China would think they can control UNESCO to stop the submission.
Obviously not all submission would be included, there is a selection process and UNESCO would check the validity of the documents submitted.

You are presenting a hypothetical situation that assumed the worse, while the Japanese act is a FACT.

Japan may stop financial contributions to UNESCO: Suga
Politics Oct. 13, 2015 - 07:00AM JST

TOKYO, Japan — Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said Monday the Japanese government will consider stopping financial contributions to UNESCO or reducing the amount, given the U.N. body’s decision to add Chinese documents on the Nanjing Massacre to the “Memory of the World” program.

The top Japanese government spokesman made the remarks on a TV program.

UNESCO’s decision on Saturday drew an immediate protest from the Japanese government questioning whether the U.N. body was “neutral and fair” in registering them.

Beijing’s dossier on the widespread killings of Chinese citizens and soldiers following the 1937 capture of Nanjing by the Japanese military is among dozens of new additions of documentary items, also including two sets of archives from Japan.

The Japanese government lodged a protest Saturday with the Chinese Foreign Ministry via the Japanese Embassy in Beijing, saying China “should not unnecessarily use the arena of UNESCO for a political purpose,” according to Japanese officials.

The “Documents of the Nanjing Massacre” consists of court documents from the International Military Tribunal for the Far East that convicted several Japanese as war criminals and a Chinese military tribunal, among others. They also include photos of the killings said to have been taken by the Imperial Japanese Army and film footage taken by an American missionary.

Japan is trying to blackmail UNESCO because it pays the organization? It displays the mindset of current crop of Japanese politicians for entire world to see. $30 million a year is not a whole lot, and China can easily pick it up.

.
It is a fact that the Japan has a baggage of the past...Japan has to accept and move it forward. By opposing certain things which are very open in public forum, it is a not doing any good with the reputation of Japan as the present day Japan is no longer seen to associated with the previous Japan which fought war with China...

So i think people of Japan are matured enough to deal with and move forward without the silly talk of boycotting UNESCO...

.
You mean China have not used tactics like diplomacy and/or economics to coerce other countries into submission over Taiwan ? Compelling other countries into submission to China over Taiwan is 'the worse'. And you really think that China will respond positively if the Tibetan exile government submit its own documents detailing China's oppression of Tibet ?
Now you are way off-topic.
We are discussing about Japan behaviour concerning UNESCO, remember?

Unfortunately, Japan will carry this history baggage well into foreseeable future. In many Japanese people's mind, they did not do anything wrong back then, they just lost the war that they started with a "good cause". They are going to nitpicking on details to death, then categorically deny the entire crime they committed. They are mistaken Tokyo War Crimes Tribunal for your regular court house, and expect the whole world to give them "the benefit of doubt". I do not think there is a deep remorse for what they did to others in national level in Japan. Instead, they really think they are actually the true victim of the war in the hand of others. This country has a very unique national psyche!

.
It is not off topic. It is about behavior at the national level and it is appropriate. You may not like how Japan responds, but in calling Japan 'childish' is distracting from the real source, which is: Why would a country -- any country -- objects to UNESCO preservation of an event ?

The 'any country' includes China because there are events, even current events, that China do not want the world to have a negative perception of. The world is already in disapproval of what goes on about Tibet. So for you to dismiss China's reaction about Tibet as 'hypothetical' when China's reactions about Taiwan have been anything but hypothetical is simply hypocritical on your part.

While past behaviors are no guarantees of future behaviors, they do serves as hints as to what a person or country would most likely trend.
Well, it is not that relevant since every countries of the world use cohesion for its own interest.

I think the one that use it the most, belongs to the national flag that you are displaying. Should I then concluded that US if put under similar circumstances, would first put political pressure, and then economical sanction, and if that doesn't work, military action to topple over the UN!! Because as you suggest, past behaviors provide a hint on future behaviors.

There are event and there are event. Nanjing Massacre is a world significant event that has a well established, main stream world view. It is unwise to even attempt to white-wash such a well accepted view.

Anybody that has some understanding of how the world work, would have understand that the UN could not possibly give in to Japanese threat. That threat is empty.

And your logic of a hypothetical <insert country here> would react as "childish" as Japan would, do not make the Japanese's act any less unwise. Two wrong doesn't make a right.

.
Most of my posts contain "LOL". I like making fun of people stupid logic. LOL Like I said, my point is to stick to the topic at hand. You know it I was right.

You should know that Japanese people don't like taking nuclear disasters as a joke and nuclear disasters are certainly not a joke and there is nothing to laugh about it.

.
I guess this post show most people lacking of Critical Thinking Skill

There are 2 issues on this.

1.)Whether or not the Nanjing Massacre site/document should be listed in the UNESCO archive
2.)Japanese reaction to UNESCO.

Set aside if Nanjing Massacre site should be listed. It's honestly quite stupid to say Japan act childish on the issue. The reaction is normal as they are the only reasonable way for a country to protest, otherwise there are nothing else...US would have done the same if Vietnam loge an application on My Lai massacre site to UNESCO....

The question itself should be whether or not Nanjing Massacre site should be listed. And to be fair, that did cover two other question, the first one is, if Nanjing Massacre should be listed, then what about the other massacre? Then tomorrow even sandy hook would start UNESCO application......

Another question is that is Massacre relate to world peace? Which was the main aim of UNESCO program.

I can accept any debate on whether or not the site should be admitted. But if all you want to talk about is how Japanese being childish, then you should also call yourselves childish to begin with...

People are calling Japan childish not because their protest, but because they are threatening to withdraw funding.

Prostest, it is their right.

Give funding to the organization as a member, it is their obligation.

pretty sure even a child knows the difference.

Neither is it off topic

Thread got derailed after that post.. How much more off-topic can it get?

Let‘s just say the Mods know how to maintain a thread.. Good enough reason for you?

It is not a joke, but a fact! I'm giving an example of what consider an appropriate registration to UNESCO.
