Japan Mulls 2018 Moon Landing

lol

well, some of us work in the constraints of reality. :)

Who's not to say that the Ayatollah's imagination is not a man peering into another universe? In that case, this picture is as real as the computer in front of you.

There should be international effort to establish a human colony in moon. There are craters in moon which can shield humans from harmful solar/cosmic radiation.

Moon colonies are nice, but I'm really looking forward to a cost-effective way to transport energy resources back to Earth.

Apparently the Moon has colossal amounts of Helium-3 and could power humanity for as long as we can imagine.

I wouldn't worry about that, there are many renewable sources of energy that can satisfy our energy demands for eternity. I'd like to see Moon as a base for our interstellar travel, given the low gravity, we can launch spaceship deep inside the solar system, and probably reach Mars in few weeks, hence another option for future colonization.

Another prospect for moon will be asteroid mining, we can place an asteroid in moon's orbit, and mine the asteroid for valuable metals, water and other hydrocarbons and use it to build space structures on moon, and to launch them into space.

By launching from moon, we can build even bigger structures in space, and If we can get water on space by mining asteroids, then farming won't be a concern using advanced aeroponics. We can sustain living in space with artificial gravity. We born on earth, but we never meant to die here. If global power comes together, forgetting wars and animosity, Mars can be terraformed within the next few hundred years.

Good points. You know sometimes i think that the only way Earth can become united is if we are threatened by an alien species bent on destroying our way of life. I think that's the only way humanity will cooperate collectively. Halo, anyone?

:D

Have you heard about the 'ant and the ant hill' analogy? I bet we have anything to attract any intelligent species. Even if they do, i bet they'd find 'Bonobo monkeys' more intelligent than us. At least they're not killing each other. :D

If an intelligent and advanced species from another part of the univese ever came across the human race, they would probably put us in a quarantine.

ha! so true !

Let's fast forward 200 , 300 years from now. Hypothetically speaking lets say humanity created a space drive technology that will enable our ships to travel destinations millions of lightyears away , and let's say humanity has found new worlds that can sustain life. Earth, during this time, would have already reached unseen population density, let's say some 60 Billion lives now live in earth , thus propelling large scale human colonization of these new worlds. Do you think that, in time, these 'human colonies' would eventually rebel against Earth and declare independence ? Or do you think they will prefer being ruled over by a United Earth Government ?

As a scientist, and a atheist, i'm always interested in the evolution of intelligent consciousness. I believe, a human mind gets insecure and violent, when he/she perceives a competition on resources. It is the greed of the elites, and insecurity and fear of the lesser mortals, that made religion, kings and kingdoms.

If the elite few give up on their greed, we still have hope on the survivability of the species as a whole.

Sustainable population will never be above 10 billion, with more population, there will be even more fierce competition on resources. And there is this natural mechanism to restore balance, and pathological bacteria/virus will mutate faster to wipe out a fraction of the total population within a matter of months.

I believe, each and every society will be governed independently depending upon the environment they'll habitat. Humans living in harsher environment will have strict rules to ensure more discipline and survivability.

All you need is to do have it drive for more than 10 seconds and you'll have outdone the Chinese.:p:
All you have to do is do nothing and you will have the exact same capability in human space travel as the US. :p:

Tentatively it's a rover by 2018, and a human landing by 2025. :)

Preparing for future colonization abilities...hehe
interesting, except the fact Japan has not sent a man into space yet, I'm not sure how much US has transferred that tech, and how much Japan learnt by doing missions with the US. Sounds a tad unrealistic though.

communism is really the answer, I mean everywhere that's been implemented has shown this.

Communism is really the answer, I mean everywhere that's been implemented has shown this.

It has failed so far. Being a scientific researcher, there is one thing I observed, mind cannot flourish under existential threat. And the threat is maximum in third world nation, like India. Unless you can ensure quality education, proper nourishment and a secure future for the citizens, a nation will never achieve it's potential. You can get cheap labour any time, but only the 'thinkers' brings changes.

The only 'communist' country that has survived and flourished is China. Every other Communist country has collapsed or is in a state of national depravity. And I doubt China is the 'thesis' of Communism; China is a capitalist state with a socialist governmental processes. It isn't 'communist' at all; all in name.

Pure Communism rejects capitalism.

Did you miss the part where I said and I quote "how much Japan learnt by doing missions with the US." Japan never independently sent a man into space and I am uncertain how much Japan took from the missions and how much tech was transferred and or developed in Japan to go with modern needs and budget constraints.

Either way, I feel 2025 is too ambitious without sending a man into space first, before shooting for the moon, but Japan is special in this aspect, nobody else has made moon landing the first mission, but then no one else was that involved in a program without launching someone up there.

Thinkers.....My grandmother was doing hard labor, that neither you nor I can handle, to support my father's university education, and my father endured hardships as an immigrant to bring me to what I am today.

You think thinkers comes from nothing? I'm not sure how much you seen of developing countries, but the next great revolutionary could be in the same room as his/her mother hard at work, or preparing for another tough day.

Something doesn't come from nothing, as a scientist, you should know that.

Don't underestimate a labor job

lol what is this, when did sarcasm stopped working when it's this obvious.
