Japan may boost immigrant numbers

@AndrewJin @Yizhi @Edison Chen

This is the result of having a low fertility rate. You suffer in the end. Also, China will have it much easier than Japan to bring Mongoloid immigrants, but Japan has essentially fought tooth and nail, to avoid immigration. But after 2 decades of stagnation, they have reached a logical conclusion, even their populace!

Also, the situation with China is rather dire, because China has a lower fertility rate than Japan had at a similar stage of development per capita.

@Bussard Ramjet ,

Even if Japan's population is decreasing, slowing down, the country , still, is overpopulated. Japan still is 128 million strong, literally the population of United Kingdom and France combined. Japan's population is only some 15 million less than Russia's. It would be healthy if Japan's population , in the future, stays within the 100 million to 120 million range.

.
Surely you're mistaken. Individualism is still a foreign concept in Japan, which is verily much collectivist in nature.
Maybe I am mistaken, but the last time I checked Japan will have a hard time maintaining a 100mil population later in this century,of witch nearly half will be retirees and half of 18-50 age group will be unmarried and childless, number maybe slightly inaccurate but I am lazy to double check, but the picture is there, and not a very bright one I must admit.

Individualism may still sound like a concept but it sure looks like the japanese practice it even more than protestant europeans

No it‘s not lower, It’s well above 1.5,you should get your figure right before posting
The real bad one is South Korea ,they have the lowest

Overpopulation ultimately comes down to the infrastructure of a city, not the land available.

Unlike the ages past, today most people live in cities or urban agglomerations. Here, quite a high density can be easily managed with a proper infrastructure system.

The predicted statistics from government is that Japan's population is to go down to around 100 million. But long term solutions can prevent this. Anyways, i think 100 million to 120 million is the right size for Japan. Afterall, Japan is not as large as say China, USA, India, Russia -- which can accommodate a larger population.

Even now, we have 128 million people in the Japanese Archipelago and that is, in my opinion, already overpopulated. Japan is really jam packed.

Yes, in Japan women are expected to maintain the traditional role. But that is something that is slowly changing.

I'd like to see women discard their traditional doctrine that they should stay at home, mainly teaching children and taking care of the housework.

I have a solution, reward the family an apartment for increasing fertility rate, seems unlikely to happen in China, lol.

Well for India, which has a larger land mass, it can accommodate further urbanization as well as increased population. In Japanese context, the population density is too large, if Japan had a larger land mass then probably it could accomodate a larger population, but that's not the case. Its so bad that Japanese Government has to create man made islands to accommodate infrastructure projects and more housing units for large urban centers such as Tokyo, Nagasaki, Fukuoka, Kyoto, Kobe (to name a few).

100 million to 120 million is ideal for us. That's enough.

As you can see here Japan's TFR in 1978 is around 1.75. In 1978 Japan had a GDP per capita of 8000 dollars.

On the train, Mr. Bus. This topic is about our mutual interest, good one! Wait for me when I am zu Hause. 4G signals in mountainous regions and a raining day is unstable.

And why haven't any developed socities ACTUALLY succeeded at doing it? No one - Singapore, Japan, etc. In Singapore Lee Kuan Yew tried tooth and nail to do it, but couldn't do it.

Why?

Because once you hit 25000 per capita, your preferences in life change. Your time is much more valuable than the marginal benefit of any house, or monetary benefit.

Also, lets say you are about to provide a benefit of 100k USD for a second child and third child. In China's case, let's say that you have want 10 million extra births per year.

That figures out to be a trillion dollars in spending EVERY YEAR.

And Mind you, I have taken very reasonable estimates.

I remember, people were talking about Infrastructure. This is similar. Get it before it gets expensive!

LOL!

I agree with that kind of reward ! Japanese women need to start getting into the baby making role, at least every Japanese couple should create 5 children. A duty for the nation !

Herbivore men(草食(系)男子 Sōshoku(-kei) danshi?)[1] or grasseaters are a social phenomenon in Japan of men who shun marriage or gaining a girlfriend.[2] They are characteristically described as frugal, and interested in personal grooming.[3] Under this categorisation scheme, men and women are either herbivore type (草食系 sōshoku-kei?)or carnivore type (肉食系 nikushoku-kei?). As of September 2010, 36% of Japanese men between the ages of 16 and 19 perceived themselves in this way.[4] Additionally, two surveys of single men in their 20s and 30s found that 61% and 70%, respectively, considered themselves grass-eating men.[5] This phenomenon is viewed by the Japanese government as a leading cause in the nation's declining birth rate, prompting the government to provide incentives for couples that have children, including payouts and free health care.[6]

Well my Russian friend, we'd love to have more Russians in Japan. Russia and Japan are geographic neighbors and should develop cooperation with each other. :)

Not all of the nursing field in Japan is 'underpaid', as nursing is a very wide and varied field, you can go into administration, management, nursing education, nursing research, can go into nursing clinical work as a Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Anesthetist , Nursing Informatics. Advanced Practice Nurses or Nursing Anesthetists, Nursing Managers can earn as high as a physician in Japan or even more. The type of nurses that are in demand are not Advanced Practice Nurses, but regular staff nurses, or nursing assistants. And to correct you, yes nurses who are recent grads may not get paid as much (around $2,500 USD a month), but eventually with time and experience, can earn as much as $3000-$3500 USD a month. It is a decent wage.

Nurse Practitioners can ear as much as $5000-$6000 a month; Nurse Anesthetists can earn as much as Anesthesiologists and in Japan they earn a lot, over $100,000 definitely.

When the salary is so high and no one want to take up the job, the implications are

1) Japanese are lazy
2) Japanese are stupid

3) Pinoy/Indonesian/PRC (foreign nurse nationality) are clever
4) Pinoy/Indonesian/PRC (foreign nurse nationality) are talented

Japan can simply raise nurse salary to infinity and no one take the job because Japanese are too lazy and stupid.

I am sure.
