Japan looks forward to strong military ties with the Philippines

Absolutely correct. The Philippines needs the following fast:

1) ASW helicopters
2) SSMs (land based and ship based)
3) 3-4 missile patrol boats and / or corvettes / light frigates

I'm surprised that Philippines still doesn't have those. You must arm those rapidly.

Vietnam runs these :
1. ASW helicopter Ka27- Ka28 , / P3C or P8 fixed wings would come soon.
2. Yakhont and KH-35EV missiles, maybe Brahmos next. for coastal, ship based, airborne
3. 10 high speed patrol missile 550 ton corvettes x 16 KH35EV = 160 missile
4 stealth 2000 ton Gepard frigate with helo pad ( 2 with ASW ) x 8 KH35EV + Palma-S CIWS
4 Sigma 9014 frigate with helo pad with Western style weapons
6 Kilo class subs ( 2 active ) with supersonic Klub-S missiles

1) 2 new ASW helo coming for the 2 new frigate
2) Anti Air missiles coming from israel with air search radars (prolly spyder). SSM's no news yet, depends on what PN puts on its new frigate as the bid for the weapons are separate, whatever they chose pretty much dictates what weapons are carried on those 2 asw helo. This our new cooperation comes in, maybe Japan can help, Type 88 :-)
3) Mentioned above in no.1 (2 new frigate) plus 3 missile capable fast attack craft MPAC Mk.3.

no surprise for us filipinos as our government is kind of a reactive one instead of a proactive kind of government. As history goes we never really have quarrels with our neighbors or felt threats by them.

We are in process of having similar items and we cant go russian we are currently using Korean, American and European weapons and other military iteams so it would be hard for us to start using Russian or old Warsaw pack iteams not unless its small arms going back we are already bidding for ASW helicopters part of the current capabilities upgrade program i think we will be getting the wildcat (super lynx) as our ASW helicopter or the Lynx so we are still deciding on what as for submarines we are studying the posibility what is right for our budget and what we can operate but the plan is three for our future sumbarine force as for Frigates we are currently upgrading the two Del Pilar classes and adding more to the fleet to replace our old Vietnam Era and World War 2 Era ships and the Corvettes as well maybe Japan would be our possible source for this but as of now our sources is South Korea Europe (UK, France, Germany) , America,Israel, Indonesia, Singapore now possibily Japan. we are currently down to 26 projects this year out of the 30s plus projects last time i counted on the military's list of items.

You operate Sokols from Poland, some mortar system from yugoslav & serbia....surely they're old warsaw pact and/or soviet influenced countries

But all of the items we bought from Poland and Serbia are all NATO standard so again we can operate Warsaw pact equipment not unless its NATO standard or small arms it would be a logistical nightmare for us
