Indian and US navies would demonstrate their marine defence capability in the 15th edition of Malabar exercise on eastern seaboard in Bay of Bengal stretched from Vizag to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands that guards the approaches to the Strait of Malacca which is considered to be one of the world’s busiest waterways. Malabar-2012 is scheduled between 9-16 April.

Japan’s Maritime Self-Defence Force has also expressed willingness to take part in the exercise.

Even last year, Japan was expected to participate, but because of Tsumani disaster it failed to make it.

During defence minister AK Antony’s visit to Tokoyo in November 2011, his counterpart Yasuo Ichikawa expressed Japan’s desire to boost bilateral defence cooperation by participating in joint exercises, in view of China’s growing maritime assertiveness.

they should simulate with all the neighbors a simultaneous attack . but then again it maybe over kill. 1/10 of our force is more than enough.

It would have been better if they had conducted the Exercises in the South China Sea!!

The Bay of Bengal area, especially the entrance to the Malacca Straits is the main point of interest here- its a major 'choke-point' on the SLOC. That is why the exercise is taking place here.

The Australians had shown some interest too, may be their participation will happen in a later edition.

More symbolic than practical value. When you rise so fast in power like China is doing, it's natural for other countries to become jealous. The question is, what can you do other than symbolic gestures? Can Japan stop China from patrolling our Diaoyu Islands? Can Vietnam stop China from harassing its ships in the South China Sea? Can india stop China from patrolling Tawang or violating indian air-space?

Malacca Straits is overrated. China is an ally of Indonesia and we can access indian ocean from any number of water passages through Indonesia.

Good job by IN....japan and US are friends. and they have huge expertise. good learning experience for us.

It's Normal to have these Drills....

and I wouldn't be to worried about these drills.... its not like China has the balls to do anything anyways.
Good, you admit that China is doing "nothing" right now with our patrols around Diaoyu Islands, coast guard enforcement in South China Sea and patrols in Tawang, Southern Tibet.

Some weak countries in Asia might be disappointed at Uncle Sam's willingness to please China!

Here goes the theory of China's peaceful rise for a toss....into the garbage dump

When was China "peaceful"? Most fellow Indians are just too optimistic to know and won't listen to us from northeast. You know, it is almost annoying to see how people from rest of the country keep hoping that the Reds would ever be peaceful despite us telling them.

Take it in written: Reds can never be peaceful in real sense.

LOL it was the Pax Sinica, emanating from Lhasa, that protected Sikkim and Bhutan from being swallowed up. Look at what happened to Assam and all those other independent states when Western colonialism weakened China in the 19th century.

We are simply going back to the natural order of the Middle Kingdom in East Asia. Whether we are "Red," Qing, Ming or Yuan it doesn't matter. Accept this reality and live in peace. Challenge us and.......
