During world war 2, Japan had 80,000 suicide/kamakazi pilots but Japan was not surrendering so USA dropped 2 nuclear bombs on Japan which ended the war.

Nukes were first considered "really big bombs", and the word "Weapon of Mass Destruction" wasn't invented after they had been used. It was not ok for USA to drop nukes, yet was it ok for week long bombing missions with much higher casuality and structure destruction? I don't think we should push our standards on past events. Yes, USA was wrong dropping nukes, yet not that wrong for us to convict mordern USA for the past.

Nuking Japan is to soften Japanese stance to defend every inches of Japan mainland if US needed to storm Japan main shore. You shall go read abt battle of Saipan. Almost 99% of the Japanese defenders died with very little surrender. While American lossed more than 2 thousands men storming the small small island.

You can imagine the ferocity storming tokyo bay and how many American will killed when they made the landing. A bomb ended the war more quickly and less American and Japanese killed.

Japanese were not ready to surrender. In fact, they are ready to defend every inch of Japan mainland. You shall go read more history of Pacific war. Ask yourself this simple question why 2 A bomb is needed to make Japan surrender with the fact of 3 days gap between dropping of each bomb. Japanese resolution not to surrender is strong. But Japan Emperor decide enough is enough and order all Japanese to lay down weapon after US demonstrated they have the abilities to wipe out whole Japan w/o too much US casualties.

The US bombed mostly civilian areas. I'm reading some military motives why the US bombed Japanese cities full with women and children with no military targets but it is wrong and against the rules of war. Most people know that it was unnecessary to drop the nuke on the cities.
