‘Japan friendliest among countries that support India’
TNN | Aug 31, 2019, 04.23 AM IST
After special status to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 was scrapped, Japan has been the friendliest among several countries who supported India, according to deputy chief minister, Nitin Patel.
Patel was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of India-Japan Business and Tourism Conclave, which was organized by Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA), Indo-Japan Friendship Association (IJFA), Gujarat, and Japan Information and Study Centre (JISC), on Friday.
“Recently, when special status was abrogated, Pakistan approached the United Nations Organization (UNO) with China’s help. We all know what all followed. At such time, the country needs friends, supporters on the global platform. Whenever India required support on global platform, Japan is one of the friendliest countries among several others,” said Patel, during the inaugural address.
Patel also acknowledged Japan’s development assistance towards several infrastructure projects in Gujarat including the Ahmedabad Metro and the ambitious High Speed Rail Project, as part of which the bullet train will connect Ahmedabad and Mumbai. Sujan Chinoy, former Indian ambassador, the newly appointed Consul General of Japan in Mumbai, Michio Harada, along with representatives from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) and other Japanese companies were also present during the inaugural ceremony.
“The conclave has been organized with a view to exploring opportunities for strengthening bilateral ties between Gujarat and Japan,” said Mukesh Patel, president, IJFA-Gujarat.
