Japan consultancy wins Bangladesh airport expansion project
Japanese government to provide $42.1m loan for infrastructure deal

TOKYO -- Major Japanese construction consultancy Nippon Koei has won an order for an airport expansion project in Bangladesh, along with four local partners, for some 4.6 billion yen ($42.1 million).

The state project includes the construction of a new terminal for international travelers as well as a new cargo terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, the capital.

The government hopes to open the new facility in August 2022, and hopes to increase the number of passengers the airport can handle annually by 50% to 12 million.

The project will cost an estimated 192 billion yen, which will be provided by the Japanese government as yen loans. The consortium plans to hold an auction between later this year and early next year to invite bids for the construction of the planned facilities. Construction is scheduled to start next year.

Oi...no problems from our end  But, will Singapore provide ~$1.8bil in very, very low interest loans for the project?

. . .
Can Japan construct the best airport?
Are you dumb? We don't have a decent one and you are caring about best. Also, we don't have abundance of money to throw around. it's the Japanese that are giving a loan with extremely low interest rate which no other country gives. And this is literally the first time I am seeing someone criticising Japan for quality stuff. What are you even talking about? If they can't, I doubt anyone else can. What do you have against Japan? I get China or South Korea having something against Japan but why would anyone else have anything to hate Japan for?

Singapore is great. No argument there. But you have to look at other factors here apart from just a countries capability to make the best ones.

Have you been to Japan? Yeah they can.

Don't forget if Singapore creates it,it would be up to date for longer period of time. Thus it would actually be cost effective.

Maybe BD should do that when it wants a completely new airport on the outskirt of Dhaka city (which they planned and then scrapped) or completely remakes the current one. But currently they are just expanding it. Not really that a big deal. BD needs a new and good one anyway, in a good position right outside of the main city.

Will this capacity be sufficient? 12 million will be too short I think and we may end up requiring to expand it again after few years.

Do you want Changi Airport management guys to operate it, then that's a different story like Port Authority Singapore. Anyone can operate it or build it.

Japanese are known for their quality and commitment. All the best
