Japan consultancy wins Bangladesh airport expansion project.

Will this capacity be sufficient? 12 million will be too short I think and we may end up requiring to expand it again after few years.
I think it is a stop gap measure until Bangabandhu airport is done. But seriously, I hope they don't choose the proposed location of Bangabandhu airport on the other side of Padma river. It will be extremely foolish idea to put an vital airport on the opposite side of a major river with just a bridge to connect with it.

SHOOT! I though it was scrapped. It seems the construction will begin in 2018 and will take a long time to complete.

2 pages of discussion for nothing. This contract to Japanese farm was for consulting only. Japanese are not best in airport design; they may be good in quality and perhaps in construction. For design Foster + Partners is one of the best in airport designer.

Airport design is very specialized area and very few in the world has that level of expertise designing contemporary airport. That is why China and other developed countries rely on these few specialized hands. If design were done by Bangladeshi architects, no matter who builds it will not be a good one.

Japan's dev assistance to BD will continue, envoy tells PM
Japan will continue its development assistance to Bangladesh in various sectors as it is already providing 600 billion yen for different mega projects, reports UNB.

Outgoing Japanese Ambassador in Bangladesh Masato Watanabe came up with the remarks when he made a farewell call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her office on Tuesday.

Prime Minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting.

He said Japanese investors have close eyes on Bangladeshi companies and they are keen to invest in building manufacturing industries in Bangladesh.

The Ambassador focused more on economic ties between the two countries and laid emphasis on advancing that further.

Referring to Gulshan cafe terror attack in July last year, Masato Watanabe termed it a tragic incident.

In reply, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said her government will ensure all-out security in all the development projects.

She termed the attack a very painful incident and said her government conducted a countrywide anti-terrorism campaign involving teachers, guardians, students, imams of mosques and other professionals to create mass awareness against terrorism and militancy. "It has yielded a positive response."

The prime minister said Bangladesh considers Japan as its great friend which always extends its support to Bangladesh.

She particularly mentioned the great contribution of Japan towards rebuilding the war-ravaged Bangladesh after its Liberation War.

Hasina mentioned that her government has acquired 1,000 acres of land in Araihazar upazila of Narayanganj to set up an economic zone there for Japanese investors.

Talking about the floods in Bangladesh, the prime minister said Bangladesh is a disaster-prone country and people are living here with natural disasters like floods.

PM's Principal Secretary Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury was present on the occasion.
