Tony Greig was a big opportunist. Where there was money there was Tony Greig, from Kerry Packer to Indian Cricket League (ICL). He used to be pro India for a long time. But after BCCI forced ICL to close down he became completely anti India and his commentary in matches involving India became unbearable.

Greigy became a stead fast Lankan cricket supporter during the the 1996' world cup Way before SLC had money to do any thing( Not that they have money now).. And had a special bond with the country and it's people.. Not for the money as you presume.. He was made a tourism ambassador nearly a decade and a half later in 2010..

Some of you Indians are just bitter because he called a spade for what it is.. The BCCI is a corrupt bunch of greedy Indian newly rich that would destroy the gentlemans game inside out for money

I think the other SLn gave a proper answer..Tony fell in love with in 96 and even his family lived in SL for few years..His kid studies in a Sri Lankan school

I am not here to defend BCCI. I have routinely criticized them, most recently about the Big 3 changes in ICC. That has nothing to do with Greig. Greig was always sucking up to India till ICL. After that he suddenly became completely anti India (mind you not just anti BCCI). He always came across as a bitter man in matches involving India. I can't respect such a person. You are supposed to be neutral while commentating, he was clearly not. The guy who went to Kerry Packer to earn money who joined ICL to earn more money had the audacity to criticize others for doing the same.

I am no fan of BCCI. Don't assume stuff that you don't know. Tony Greig from his "grovel" comment against the West Indies to using "****" to describe Pakistanis to mindless hatred of anything India post ICL has always come across as a xenophobic twat. He is one of those guys who could do anything for money.
