THE LONG MARCH 3B booster (LM3B) which exploded and crashed 1.5km downrange from the Xichang launch centre, China, T+25s after launch on 14 February, killed four people and injured 52, China Great Wall Industry (CGWIC) has confirmed (Flight International, 21-27 February). The failure resulted in the loss of the Intelsat 708.

Six people were killed on the ground by the crash of a Long March 2E in January 1995. China, which has lost three commercial satellites in nine launches since 1990, has suspended the next planned commercial launch of the ApStar 1A on a Long March 3 until an investigation is completed. The launch had been due in March.

The LM3B suffered a catastrophic loss of control almost immediately after lift-off. The space-insurance community will not tolerate an inconclusive explanation from CGWIC, similar to those, which followed two LM2E failures in 1992 and 1995.

The loss of the Optus B2 in December 1992, was blamed on neither the vehicle or the satellite, while unique turbulence was blamed for the loss of the ApStar 2, in January 1995.

India to set up dedicated aeronautics and avionics academy

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM (PTI): India will get its first dedicated academy in aeronautics and avionics this month to train students in the emerging sector.

The Indian Institute of Aerospace Engineering and Management, with a campus in Bangalore, will start offering MBA and M.Tech courses in avionics and aeronautics management this month end, G Krishnadas Nair, Chairman and Managing Director of Cochin International Airport Limited, told PTI on the sidelines of the 97th Indian Science Congress here.

The institute, affiliated to Jain University, will offer undergraduate courses in six streams including aeronautical engineering and post graduate courses in aircraft production management, aircraft design and development and avionics.

"We will have batches in all streams by July," said Nair, who also heads the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.

Currently an academy, run by the Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL) offers some academic programmes in airport management and aviation business management.

Nair said the Indian Institute of Aerospace Engineering and Management will be the first institute to offer undergraduate, post-graduate, courses in aeronautics and avionics.

The institute is being set up at a time when the aviation sector is witnessing a boom amid plans of massive expansion in civil aviation infrastructure.

Senior faculties from HAL and IIT-Kanpur have already joined the institute, which will have representatives from HAL, ISRO, National Aerospace Laboratories and Jain University on its Governing Council.

Its not just Indian's who know that ISI supports terrorism and that the Military establishment condones it.

ISI started out in 1980's helping the Kahmir militants at the start like RAW did in Bangladesh.

They Kashmir Militants sprung up because they were inspired by the Mujaheddin in Afghanistan that defeated the Soviets. Tanks to ISI the Mujaheddin were dead, so ISI introduced the Taliban to KAshmir groups for training and tactics.

But as they Became terrorists, under the twisted religious fanaticm of the taliban. ISI still supports them as they have failed to change with the changing world.

If the Pakistani people wont bring their leader to account who will.
