f you have anything left on your bucket list, do it now because the world is close to annihilation.

That's according to the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, which gave its annual presentation of the Doomsday Clock today.

A group of scientists and scholars, including 15 Nobel laureates, set the clock at 11.58pm – two minutes before the symbolic apocalyptic midnight.

The minute hand didn't move since last year. But 11.58pm is the closest the clock has ever been to symbolising doom.

"The fact that the Doomsday Clock's hands did not change is bad news," said Robert Rosner, chair of the Bulletin's Science and Security Board.

So why are we so close to destruction? Nuclear weapons and climate change, experts say.

"In the nuclear realm, the United States abandoned the Iran nuclear deal and announced it would withdraw from the Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF), grave steps towards a complete dismantlement of the global arms control process," the Bulletin said.

"The Iran agreement is not perfect, but it serves the interest of the international community in restraining the spread of nuclear weapons."

As for climate change, "global carbon dioxide emissions – which seemed to plateau earlier this decade – resumed an upward climb in 2017 and 2018", the Bulletin said.

Climate change is the biggest risk to business (and the world)

"To halt the worst effects of climate change, the countries of the world must cut net worldwide carbon dioxide emissions to zero by well before the end of the century." (AP)

"To halt the worst effects of climate change, the countries of the world must cut net worldwide carbon dioxide emissions to zero by well before the end of the century."

The scientists lambasted President Donald Trump's announcement to pull out of the 2015 Paris Climate Accord, "the main global accord on addressing climate change".

The Doomsday Clock hasn't always spelled doom and gloom since it was first introduced in the 1940s.

Back in 1991, it was set at a whopping 17 minutes before midnight.

But before the clock struck 11.58pm in both 2018 and 2019, the last time the world was considered so close to annihilation was in 1953, when the United States and the Soviet Union were in a nuclear arms race.

The world is going to hell in a hand basket. Primarily because its moral compass is upsidedown.

We live in an age where reality and appearances are usually opposite to each other.

I have a simple solution for it, Take out the Batteries from the Clock ..

One thing I have learnt from years of research is that everything that happens in the World, and has happened to this World since thousands of years, are 'Controlled' and controlled by a "Shadowy Power". And I am sorry to sound anti-religion, but it is NOT God who is this 'Shadowy Power'.

One thing that has been very interesting to note since a few thousand years is that everytime there has been "Destruction", example, the Great Flood, the Human Civilization of that time was at PEAK of its technology and was about to LEAP into the next technological revolution which would have probably given it the ability to Space travel. Thus it is my opinion that the present Human civilization has reached a point in technology that given a few decades, it will leap frog into Space exploration in a major way.

This 'Shadowy Power' does not like this, and will destroy most of Humanity by creating a huge 'natural event' or a huge war that will kill off and send humanity back into dark ages.

With so much warmongering around, no surprises.

Humans possess the ability of self-annihilation afterall.

well no one can predict when the war will happen. the situation of the world changes within a year. till last january NK- US rivalry about nuclear missiles were the hot topic and Kim was testing missiles on almost monthly basis. suddenly all of that changed and kim and trump met and NK even demolished his nuclear bomb testing site. no country right now is stupid enough to go for a full scale war with any nuclear capable military. proxy wars and economic wars are the mode of warfare in out time and it will remain in near future as well. global warming is not going to bring complete destruction in net 20 years at least. it is damaging but its rate of destruction is not that fast that it can destroy the world in near future.
