According to ANSA reports, Italian Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi has resigned over the marines' issue.

I think they want marines just for elections so all those things were part of game.

It was extremely idiotic on part of the Italian FM to engage in Brinkmanship. India called his bluff, and he had to fold!
Which made his Govt have to eat "humble crow". He acted foolishly, ergo he had to be dumped. That is all there is to it.

Not surprising- he publicly stated the marines would not be returning and a few days later they are in New Delhi! His credibility was shattered. He resigned so fair enough, he fell on his sword. However we don't know to what extent he was pushed.

it was their own blunder to cheat one country's highest court by promising the two killers' return and then renegade, and now they had to eat their words - twice, and doubling their own humiliation. in parliamentary democracies, governments deserve to fall for such disgrace.

but this dude indeed so strongly dissented from his prime minister's decisions, he should've resigned before and not now. now he was just bowing to public backlash and not acting out of genuie political ethics. i despised italy for the political decisions it took in the past few weeks, but now i get to see that these decision-makers have no personal integrity either, shifting blame to each other and jumping a sinking ship. no wonder italian politics is so dysfunctional and italian government so inapt and myopic.
