When you renounce yr citizenship you get a letter, which no one has seen so far.

BBC is saying it probably due to Sonia saying so.
Where is a proof?

Only a formal request from the Government of India can clarify this position. The former Prime Minister Mr. Narasimha Rao had in a casual conversation told me that he had been informed that Mr. Gandhi was still a citizen of Italy. But this is hearsay and not yet confirmed evidence.

In my view it will be fair and legally appropriate in your position as President of India and custodian of the Constitution that you make a formal request through our Government to the Government of Italy to provide a copy of the file relating not only to Mr. Rahul Gandhi’s citizenship but also of Ms. Sonia Gandhi and her daughter Priyanka so that this controversy regarding Ms Sonia Gandhi and her two children’s citizenship status in Italy, is set at rest.

In this case, I applaud Indian decision to stand by its own jurisdiction to insist on taking back the 2 marines... If the Italian government agreed to Indian government agreement, they shall honour it by sending back its marine. We Asian are not pusher and this is not more colonial times.

she did not have to. Accepting India passport automatically does that (italy did not allow dual citizenship then, source: wiki). In any case, there was never a controversy regarding Indian passport (even main opposition party accepts) so she did not need to show it.

She has lied several times, can not take her word:

In an affidavit filed in the Delhi High Court, Swamy contends that Sonia Gandhi's citizenship of India is irregular and liable to be terminated because she did not submit with her application a certificate from the government of Italy that she had renounced her Italian citizenship.

Instead, she merely submitted a letter from the Italian Ambassador certifying the receipt of a letter from her about renunciation of her Italian citizenship. "A mere declaration by her is not enough, or a letter from the Ambassador of Italy, informing receipt of a letter of renunciation from her. Under Article 51 of the Italian Constitution, Italians are of two types: those residing in the republic and those not. Citizenship is not alienable," Dr. Swamy said at a press conference, releasing the contents of his affidavit.

Besides, he allegd that Sonia Gandhi had misled the nation and Parliament about her real name, identity, family background and educational qualification.

He furnished documents, issued by the Italian Ambassador on April 29, 1983, to prove that Sonia was not born in Orbassano, as stated by her and published in the Lok Sabha's "Who's Who", but at Lusiana, Italy.

Moreover, he said, she had never disclosed that her real name was not Sonia but Antonia, according to her birth records.

Dr. Swamy said Sonia Gandhi had violated the Supreme Court directive to the Election Commission that candidates in an election must accurately state their educational qualification. "It is embarrassing for the Opposition that the Lok Sabha leader of Opposition has been caught having misled the nation about her true name, identity and family background," Dr. Swamy alleged.

The Congress(I), however, has chosen to ignore the issue. "We normally do not react to what Subramanian Swamy says," said a senior Congress(I) functionary

its less to do with honour, more of posturing due to local politics in India. Congress (I), the ruling party does not want to be seen as lenient due to italian connection.

Dr. Swamy, however, argued that there was a legal bar on Mr. Gandhi becoming the Prime Minister “arising from Italian law which made him a citizen upon birth. He has never renounced this inherited citizenship and that he has travelled on Italian passport all over Europe on an alias.”

Rahul once declared his intentions to sue Swamy, but he reneged on his own claim why?
His claim would not have been tenable in the palace of justice...
